Murci string question

Have just been checking over the car before our departure for a road trip, and have just noticed something for the first time, but have no idea what it is or what it does.

With the engine cover up, on the right hand side near the hinge/actuating arm for the air intake scoop, there's a bit of black string that is tied off in a loop. I didn't want to pull it in case something dropped off, or it did something that I couldn't later correct.

Anyone know what it is and/or what it's for?

its the over ride release for petrol flap , if the electric solenoid does not work

That's the one. Thanks for that Kelly. I did look in the handbook, but as I didn't know what it was, I didn't know what to look for. Catch 22!
