Just the thing for a damp early autumn Monday, that said it’s about time one of these found its way to Suffolk

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C54336/#

It certainly looks the part with the Miura wheels etc but such things are a minor detail if there is the dreaded tin worm of the odd leak to be found.

Many thanks

Hi Rob

We have owned an espada since 1978 and it is going through a total restoration at the moment. Ours is also a rhd in non metallic brown. I have posted some pics of it on here a while ago. If the asking price is for real and the work done is as good as they say, you cant go wrong. The biggest fault with any older lambo is they are not driven enough and things dry out or sieze up. When ours was on the road, I drove it every day, winter and summer. If you want to talk more then feel free to pm me. If it ticks all the boxes for you, dont hesitate, just do it

The car is an early series 2 Espada first registered in 1970.

I viewed the car in May this year.

The car appears to have been subject to extensive body work and interior work .

The under bonnet area appears to have received little attention over the last 20 years.
Some work is non standard eg the replacement leather seat facings are not perforated.

There are very few front engined lamborghinis on the market, so if you genuinely want an early Espada then you should consider this car. I am unaware of any other similar (splined hubs) cars on the uk market.

However you must remember it is a 40 year old car , which largely retains all the original components and you may encounter major repairs. It has the potential to easily run through the purchase price in repairs.

Very few Espadas have been comprehensively restored like many E types, for example, so you need to gauge available cars on this basis.

The best thing is to view the car and drive it.

Its certainly been sat for quite some time and the concept of a temperamental Italian is something I’m more than familiar with apart from Ford V8’s instead of something slightly more sophisticated but points duly noted.

Trouble is it’s such a long drive if you can flush out a real stinker in advance it saves you an entire day wasted

I have indeed seen the brown car that’s being restored; dare I suggest I think the colour is A1? I’ll drop a PM shortly

He has had this car for sale for about two years. I was thinking about going down there last week and sticking a bid on it as he must be sick of the sight of it by now! Surely must be worth a look!

Yes, I recall this car being for sale 2 years ago when I was considering buying one. I guess the fact that it's still not sold speaks volumes for how "sticky" these cars can be. I put a bid in on one car that had been for sale for a couple of years and the guy rejected that bid. The car stayed unsold for another year.

What put me off this particular car was the conddition of the interior - looked like it might need a retrim and new carpets. But it must be worth a serious bid now, given the amount of time they have had it in stock...

i have had my espada since 1993. Made some terribly expensive mistakes with restoring it.
Dont know the car but am sure colin clarke in abbots langley would as he knows most of them in the UK. Ask him and if buying it would take it to him to do the work too

Agree with other posters about them not being used and costs if goes badly wrong!

Again here to help if I can

Apologies for the slow reply, some helpful comments and suggestions and was pretty much what I expected.

Best to find a dry day and go and have a look I think

As an aside and although a very different proposition at some levels I am keen to get my first Lamborghini without spending a huge amount on the car itself, is the red Silhouette that’s been for sale for some time a good car and just a bit on the expensive side?

I'm sure another PHer owned a silhouette. May even have been that one. Suits your collecting tastes perfectly doesn't it Rob? Another concept car smile

I blame the parents, taking a young lad to various motorshows in the mid-70’s created a lifelong and expensive addiction

Have you seen the Aston Bulldog that’s for sale…………
