I'm thinking of decatting my 550. Over the last few years I've replaced the back boxes and centre section. It sounds good but I'm thinking of going down the test pipe route. I like my cars loud.

Has anyone on here done it or heard a decatted 550? I've heard a number of decatted V8 cars and they sounded amazing.

I know about the MOT issues.

Any views anyone?

Thanks

Adam,

I managed to find a clip of one on a dyno. It was loud!

I bought one with test pipes because it sounded so wonderful. The sensors on the exhaust picked up incorect temparature signals and put up warning lights on the dash.It went back to have new ecus but that didn't work so I had to have cats put back. Someone has probably developed something to get round the problem but I never found them or it. Good luck with using test pipes as the sound is the only thing missing from an amazing car.

You can never guarantee with test pipes, if they will throw errors on the dash or not. Some cars are fine with them and others, throw the light as soon as you switch the car one.

Going to the Sports Cats option you will get most of the noise and performance benefit without risk of errors and emmisions problems come MOT time. Larini offer the Cats aswell as the other exhaust components for the 550. Feel free to PM me if you would like further info.

Thanks

Isn't it just a case of remapping the car once the decats are fitted? The garage that fit the pipes or the mapper should easily be able to reset the engine fault code that causes the light to come on.

DMS offer a remap for the 550, so I'm sure lots of other tuners would too, and I'm sure you could get a bespoke map to make the most of whatever mods you've got (decat, high-flow sports cats, sports exhaust, different airbox, etc).

PS - This thread needs some vids/pics!

There are a few clips of a certain Tubi'd 550 on this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rr92T8bB12Q

Would LOVE to hear a decatted one though!

Get em fitted, then if any warning lights come on, take the bulbs out!

The dealer told me that if I drove the car with the warning up it would shut the engine down to protect itself. When I bought the car it had just the cats removed so the rest of the exhaust I think was standard. It sounded much better than any sports exhaust I have heard. I had the cats put back, they were in store, and it went back to being quiet. 550's are raced now so someone who prepares them for the track may be able to help you.
