That's just weird
Discussion
After much prevarication and vacillation, I finally chopped in the Granturismo for...another Granturismo. Took delivery last Monday. This time it is the S Auto. I've not had the chance to do anything other than pootle around town so far, but I am very pleased with my new P&J. The performance is not much of a leap from the 4.2, but enough to make a difference in real world day-to-day driving. My other pet hate with the original car (weedy music system) has been solved through the BOSE option. And the iPod compatibility and Bluetooth functionality address the final niggles I had with the first car. Pretty much perfect, then, except for one thing.
The car has the wrong carpet mats in it. How weird is that? The only explanation I have is that the makey-learny boy in the dealership must have fitted QP mats by mistake. They so obviously don't fit properly, that it is bizarre. Having them swapped over in a couple of days when I can get back to the dealer.
I realise that the fact that it took me a few days to notice doesn't say much for the pre-delivery inspection I gave it - but it was a Monday morning and I was in a rush to get to the office..

Now please can we see your car, pretty please
Yes, sorry for the lack of pictures. It basically piddled down all weekend so there wasn't much opportunity for picture taking. I will remedy that as soon as possible (next weekend is most realistic I fear).
And I haven't checked under the ill-fitting carpet mats, so now you have me worried about what I'll find there...

Im sure the garage will resolve it in a breath,, Is the S much louder. The videos online sound amazing ?And I haven't checked under the ill-fitting carpet mats, so now you have me worried about what I'll find there...
Yes, the noise is great. To get the full effect you have to press the Sport button (which would have been better marked as the "Noise" button) and then once you hit 3000 rpm the valves in the exhaust sytem open and it just starts shouting. Quite amusing doing that through the tunnel under Hyde Park Corner - Sport button, manual mode, second gear, SHOUT! I really need to get out of London this weekend!
It also seems to make more noise when it is first started. I am not sure how to explain that. Either the exhaust valves open so the car gives you a proper welcome or, more likely, I am just imagining it..

I think it is noisy when you first start it because the engine is cold and the choke or equivilent will be active. It also seems to make more noise when it is first started. te out of a biker the other day who caught me up in traffic as I was about to turn left into Sloane st. He was laughing and said that he'd almost fallen off because when i floored it he thought 'an aeroplane was landing on (my) head'..Classic.
Yes, it is true that the engine runs above normal idle speed for a couple of minutes if started when cold, and that obviously increases the noise. But that wasn't exactly what I meant. The old GT obviously did the same thing (i.e. run above idle), but when I first turn the key in the GTS the initial bark on start up seems to be louder. I can't explain it because if you don't touch the throttle when starting the car, when it fires up the engine spins to about 2000rpm and then settles to idle (or fast idle if it's cold). 2,000rpm isn't enough to open the valves, but it seems loud.
Anyway, whether it is real or in my head, it makes me smile every time!
