F430 & Gallardo
Discussion
I know its a never ending discussion , but wanted to ask you nice people couple of questions.
- I have 85K to spend on a car. Given that it has to be a 3 year old car probably with 10-20k miles, which second hand car would be more reliable ?
- What are the must have options ?
- is the F430 sat nav any good ?
- Do they have digital speedos ?
- Which one is easier as a daily drive ?
- Any other sports car you would recommend in the price range ?
thank you

Thanks, really good info.
Is it possible to have an after market sat nav in the F430 ?
We have a Alpine Touch screen, European Sat-Nav with iPod/iPhone control and bluetooth hands-free technology fitted in our F430 demonstrator. Works like a treat! Car is available to view at our Hayes (near Heathrow) showroom. Is it possible to have an after market sat nav in the F430 ?
We have a sponsored link in the 'oily pages' of pistonheads.

The 430 Sat Nav is terrible to be honest, you can get after market ones that look something like this:- I have 85K to spend on a car. Given that it has to be a 3 year old car probably with 10-20k miles, which second hand car would be more reliable ?

To be really honest with you a £100 TomTom is better than most Sat Navs I've used in BMWs, Astons etc.
Neither car has digital speedos.
I reckon the 430 is probably the easier car to drive 0n a day to day basis. The ride seems to be a bit softer and all round visibility is better. It's also a bit less intimidating than the Gallardo.
For £85k you could get a Aston V8 Vantage, Audi R8, 911, Used DB9, Maserati Granturismo S, Bentley GT Speed. Lots of nice cars out there for that some of money.
Hope that helps
I've had both and would say as a drivers car the F430 wins hands down... the Gallardo turns more heads and has more creature comforts inside too... but as an alternative I would look at the V10 R8 which has the best total package and you will be buying a newer car with loads more warranty... I did and can honestly say it's my favourite so far but either way you will not be dissapointed with any of these vehicles as long as you buy wisely...
Both have great qualities. For me, the interior of the F430 was the deciding factor. Didn't like the aged Audi feel of the Gallardo (in fact, even Audi sorted it for the R8).
What also helped day to day was the better steering lock and ground clearance.
I may get shot down for this, but I would have prefered to say "I drive a Lamborghini" than "I drive a Ferrari".

I agree that R8 is an option (i had a v8, recently sold), easy to drive, very reliable and fun.
I wouldnt mind buying R8 v10 or even v8 again. (the sale was a strategic move, as i got a crazy offer from someone i know , so couldnt resist)
but i want to have a ferrari or lambo before i die
am i being stupid ? i keep hearing horror stories, clutch issues with the italians but hey we live only once.
my brain says R8 but heart says go to the italian way.

No not being stupid. I don't own any real recent Ferraris (550 is my most modern) but I have lots of friends who do and they are very reliable if looked after well. If you don't do juvenile standing starts then the clutch is fine. An acquaintance with a Lambo Gallardo seems to have had the same experience too.
Go for it, I don't know anyone who has regretted it. For the record, my 550 has been very reliable and I still love that car after 42 months of ownership.
Onno

Not sure what "horror" about it is, but of course the clutches have a lifetime. Plenty of city driving and reversing will wear through the plates sooner. As will launch control and track use. Clutch replacement should always be factored into the expected cost of ownership. If you are realistic then you don't get shocked. A ferrari clutch is quite cheaper to replace than a lambo one mind.

I have a 430. Wish I'd got carbon brakes. If you like to 'press on' the steels are not up to the job.Gassing Station | Supercar General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
