Evening all,

I've seen a 2004 Gallardo for sale here (Dubai) for roughly GBP42k. All I know at this point is that it looks gorgeous and has 42,000 kms on the clock. Given that this wouldn't have a warranty and that I am mechanically retarded, would this be a potential marraige killer? To buy it would require sensitive negotiations with the Mrs, but to spend serious money on the upkeep would require a divorce, I'm sure.
So, should I eliminate this dream as simply out of my reach?

I think jdwcd has alluded to it - you married the wrong woman.

How does it compare to other Gallardos over there? (Have I understood correctly that you live there?) Seems cheap but it might be par for the course. I know 2nd hand 911s were (are?) a lot cheaper in Dubai than in the UK. What's stopping you just going down the "condition->service history->inspection->price->all good?->get it bought" route?

I'm assuming that you have never owned a Lambo or similar before. If you have, you will have some idea of the running cost. If not, it's expensive. I don't what your expectations are but even if this is a gem of a car (which it may well not be, given how cheap it is), it will run up big bills if you're going to use it a lot. the TCO of a car like this is in another world compare to your BMW.

As far as the specific car, I too am not mechanically gifted and If I were buying a car of this type and that old, I would pay for a full independent inspection. Also get a clutch snap test done as this is going to be one of the bigger bills you're likely to encounter.

Thanks gents, it seems a bit cheaper than the norm, but I put that down to the milage/year. I've never owned anything like this before, and quite frankly wouldn't trust what I am told here. It just seems a cheap option to buy a dream car, but have obvious concerns over the future expenses. Annual servicing etc I would expect, but a car that is 7 years old? Would I expect to shell out for other big expenses?
I guess it's a "piece of string" question but was just after a few thoughts.
Cheers.
