Just curious. I know not all owners are multi millionaires so has the price of fuel affected your driving style or the amount of times you take out your pride and joy i.e. car ;-) just for a hoon?

I know I have certainly slowed down and drive more economically than before but be interesting to hear from you highenders.

Nobody enjoys filling up and putting £100 in where £60 was the norm particularly when we know the tax content and the price in other countries

Sadly politicians are chauffeured around in cars we fill up for them so could not be bothered they think we will just grin and bear it

As per your question I will drive limited distances less often in the 'fun' cars and use the 320d for all distance work

£6.50 per gallon UK

$3.80 per gallon USA or £2.38

Yours sad and accepting as only we Brits know how

having an expensive performance car and driving it economically is like paying Woody Harrelson £1M to sleep with Demi Moore then just giving her a peck on the cheek at bedtime.

Ferris Bueller has a good line we can use to describe anyone with >£30K tied up in a sportscar who changes their driving style because of the price of fuel:- "a man with priorities so far out of whack doesn't deserve such a fine automobile"

I think that most owners will agree that filling-up is probably the least expensive aspect of running a F/M/L/B.

£6.50 a gallon = £ 1.43 per litre, not quite there yet but probably by June :-(

I happened upon a Shell station recently where it took nearly 30 mins to get to a pump - it must have been the cheapest in Bournemouth that day coz the forecourt was jammed with Honda Jazzes driven by men in beige anoraks and flat caps....all putting £15 quid in.

Have a look at the other pumps next time you fill-up..bet everyone else puts in £15 and then hypermiles behind HGVs.

Sorry to be a pedant - but U.S gallon is 3.785 litres, UK gallon is 4.546 litres.

The feeling the car gives you: priceless biggrin (and in some case just simply immoral)

That's what I keep telling myself while waiting for ages to fill up with v-power.

Have a look on some of the yachting forums if you think thats bad. A lot of owners cant afford to even take their boats out now due to the cost of filling up.

I don't let the price affect me when out for a drive, but I am always thinking about it.

Filling up at the weekend in France for about £1.40 is always depressing, but the only time it really annoys me is when it's a mundane 50 mile trip I'm doing for no real reason and I work out how much that costs me - because of this I've bought a more economical 2nd car.

PAying 50p/mile in petrol alone is a bit depressing but I do so few miles it doesn't really bother me.

50p per mile!!! That is equivalent to approx 12 mpg. Good God man you must do a hell of a lot of spirited driving or own something really exotic. Even in the Gallardo I can get high teens.

My V8 Vantage living in central London and mostly being driven in town is managing 14.4mpg over 3,200 miles so far.

(My Audi S5 V6 only did 15.9mpg so it's quite good!)

The 355 does <10MPG around London.

Not that I drive it in London much, but even on a spirited B-road drive I can get the refill light to come on after 175 miles.

If you are worried about petrol prices don't buy a gaz guzzler. However bear in mind that if you are thinking of the environment buying a diesel car is substancially worse for pollution than the equivalent petrol car, and electric cars are the worst pollutants of all.

I drive my 612 every day (in and out of town), before hand my Quattroporte managed an easy 18mpg, compare that to my collegue's Range Rover Diesel that does a real 22mpg (and a shocking amount of soot) and sounds like a bag of nails.

So even if I bought a Volvo Islington 1.1 diesel hybrid bag-o-sh that does 40mpg (real), then over a year I would save 3000 pounds. Now if 3000 pounds a year make a diffrence to you, you should not buy a supercar.

I will never work out the MPG of a supercar, it's just not worth it as it wouldn't make a difference in the big picture.

Generally speaking, I begrudge paying for petrol in cars that arent particulalry interesting. It used to pain me to put £15 in a Mazda 626 but not even blink when I put £50 in my M3. Odd but true.

Overall, the price of fuel bothers me because its a p'ss take, but still on the whole scheme of things, its not the end of the world. One plus side is poeple who dont need/want to drive will eventually change their ways.

Nor me. I guess the GT4 does about 15 mpg on a spirited blast and less round a track, but at 2,500-3,000 miles a year its not going to change how often I use it.

Its not just high end cars that have fuel cost problems,Even I have just put my prices up dont panic the H2 is on lpg even that keeps going up

Mind you this is more cost effective than a 7 1/2 tonne truck & my customers get a nice ride
