I keep threatening to buy one, but this has got to be the year.

The plan was to stick to a main dealer as the market seems to be littered with dodgy / clocked examples.

What's the general advice for buying from a dealer? Which are the trusted (as much as they can be!) ones?

Would you still get an independant inspection?

I'm in the South too.

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I can't find anything, so please feel free to link any past threads.

Thanks

I can recommend Tim Walker - he's a straight up guy and his cars are good ones. Even if you don't fancy any of his cars, or if it's too far to travel, it's worth giving him a call as he knows most of the 360's on the market.

Not sure whether you mean "main dealer" as in official Ferrari dealership that offer the 2 year used car warranty but if you meant an independent specialist (which would be much more realistic when looking for a 360) then I would recommend Foskers.

Thanks chaps.

I'm interested in views as to go to a specialist or main dealer really.

It's quite a different prospect to anything i've bought before, and i'd rather pay a bit more knowing it was 100% straight. If a 2 year main dealer warranty means a couple of extra £k on the price then so be it.

Not even sure how many main Ferrari dealers there are in the Uk??

IIRC they only put the 2 year warranty on approved used cars at main dealers and I think they have to be under 8 Years old so many 360's may not qualify

Agree with this, he's always really helpful and is building quite a loyal following at the moment. Also check out his website for a buying guide.

Good luck with the search!

I'm also looking to buy a 360 later in the year. There doesn't seem to be many 360's that appear in the official dealer network (due to age) so a well respected specialist seems to be the way to go.

Have heard good things about Nick Cartwright and they usually seem to have some nice stock.

I'd also be interested in any recommendations for independent inspections.

Cheers,
Mike.

Never exclude the option to buy privately.

In my opinion, you get a much better feel for how your prospective purchase was used and looked after.

I wouldn't/haven't excluded buying privately and agree it's a good way to get an idea of how a car has been looked after.

Would just need/want to get it inspected by an expert as you could write my mechanical knowledge on the back of fag packet with a felt tip pen. Wouldn't want my first Ferrari purchase to be tainted by buying a iffy example.

Cheers.

As as has been said, Tim from Walkersport for sales, Geoff at Shiltech for service.

A pre-purchase inspection is a must, even from a dealer, but this is no guarantee. I bought from a (non-Ferrari) dealer and had an inspection performed. Unfortunately the inspector could not access the underside of the car as there were no ramps at the dealer so he did the best he could. Long story short, the recently replaced clutch did not include a replacement Rear Main Seal so oil contaminated the new clutch and it needed replacing. The RMS leak was noticed after 10 days of ownership, but the dealer refused to take any responsibilty for it. I had the clutch replaced at my expense and am persuing the dealer through the small claims court.

What I'm trying to say is that you MUST have a decent slush fund in order to run these cars. Some people are lucky and their cars cost little, but there is always the potential for a big bill round the corner. An inspection is not a guarantee and can only give you an indication of the condition and value of the car.

Don't let this put you off, just make sure you don't overstretch yourself otherwise it will take all the enjoyment out of the ownership experience and you will end up feeling stressed every time you hear a noise (which you always will!) wondering how much it will cost you.

Sounds like good advice, thanks.

Totally agree about the slush fund. I definately wouldn't look to buy unless I could comfortably afford to do so whilst having a bit put by if anything goes wrong.

Oh, and always wondered... why hasn't this sold? I'm sure they have had it well over a year.
