Although similar starting price of £169k approx, how do they compare in price when specced? I know that the McLaren is charging £5k for sat nav upgrade, £10k for ceramic brakes, £3k for metalic paint - need at least £185k for decent spec. Anyone know what the 458 spec prices are?

Why buy ceramics when their steel option is lighter?

Does 10k or even 20k either way make a difference on your decision? You should buy the car that makes you feel like a millionaire, not the one that has the best iPod interface. At least that's my view.

The 458 will always come with ceramic brakes, so that is not an option. The other options are pretty expensive but not ridiculously so. I've got a 2009 price list in Dutch and will pick a few options with Euro prices. Because in Holland we have an additional tax over VAT it's a bit difficult to give you the right price but I'll put down the price without VAT and then you can make your own adjustments. I used to have a 2010 list too but can't find it. Be aware that this is list is from just after launch and more options have been added and prices have changed. But it will give you an idea.

Colour outside of standard range: 2,350
1950's or 1960's colour: 7,050
4-point harnass: 2,030
Painted calipers: 850
White rev counter: 550, red or yellow gratis
Two-tone interior: 1,600
Coloured seatbelts: 550
Electric seats: 2,200
Automatic dimming rearview mirrors (inside and out): 950
Parking sensores: 800
iPod interface 560
Navigation system: 2100
Luggageset: 3,900

Hope this helps a little.

Apart from the parking sensors, which I regard as a bit of an insurance policy, none of those options appeal to me.

I suppose it is all relative. I bought a new Mini Cooper in 04 and adding on the Chilli pack (bigger wheels, lowered sus, half leather) and bunging in a cd player all pretty essential for good resale added over £2000 to a £12900 list price if memory serves me right. Thats about 15%ish. On a £169,000 car that would be £25,000 worth.

no just purely to compare the specced price of both as the 458 comes with ceramic brakes as standard.

These seem very reasonable for Ferrari

McLaren are asking £5100 for the upgraded sat nav, £1600 for parking sensors, £2,550 for electric/heated seats

Anyone have a UK price list for 458?

Does it not strike people as a bit of a p!ss take that on a £150,000+ car, they still charge you extra for metallic paint?

I can understnad things like sat nav, as that'a personal choice (and there are better, cheaper alternatives if you don't mind sticking something to the windscreen), but Metallic paint or pearl paint seems an easy way for them to make a bit more cash!

The funniest option is the colour of the Rev counter. Yellow or red discs are free, but white ones are £500. biggrin Must have the same problem producing white components as Apple iPhone!

You're not a big chap are you? Go for the medium ones - then you won't slop around in them when cornering hard. It's a bit annoying for 2nd hand Ferrari shoppers like me that nearly every one that goes for the race seats orders large.

The £5100 (inc VAT) for McLaren Sat nav also includes Meridian Surround Sound System - I'm not trying to say it's good value but the Hi Fi has to be worth more than the nav.

MP4 options list also includes "Special Paint" £1700 and Elite Paint £3820, so a lot cheaper than Ferrari's most expensive paint option - Yellow.

There's no option for 4 point harnesses, which is a bit of a surprise.
