Judging by the classifieds, not much seems to be selling at the moment. Mine's been advertised for a month with few calls and no one serious enough to come round to take a look. It's in great condition and about the cheapest available... what's going on?

I think a combination of factors. People are not selling so not subsequently looking to upgrade. The financial environment is getting worse as the real effects of the "recession" start to bite. It costs a lot to move cars as you lose on the one you are selling and it costs more to move up (or even down as margins take effect). So a really sluggish market in UK and most sales seem to be going abroad. If your car is that good and well priced it will sell, even if it leaves the UK.

I'm sort of in the market for one, but not back in the UK until the end of this month, then off again early april until the start of May, which buggers up my plans to go viewing.

How much are you looking for yours? Pm me the details if you prefer.

Good cars that are well priced will still sell.

Sold my G last week after not a lot of interest when it was with a dealer on SOR. I had 3-4 phone calls within 48 hours of it being on PH privately, probably as a result of it being £6k cheaper than the dealer wanted for it. So I think the people that are looking for this sort of car are being quite price sensitive. My advice is to advertise it for the exact amount you want, and specify no offers. This might entice some buyers who were not looking at the advert before if it was over priced.

Matt,
yours was a cracking car and well priced. I think you are right that buyers can afford to be choosey so price/colour/spec are paramount whereas in a bullish market people are more likely to compromise.

I think the market is very slow. I also think that the export market for the more illustrious examples of a marque may be encouraging people to price more prosaic brethren at a higher price than they are actually worth.

A friend with an F40 for sale says that prices have plateaud. In which case, I guess the buyers will fall into two camps; The buyer who will take his time to secure the best example his money can buy and the buyer who will accept more of a compromise in return for a lower price.

I`d clean it and then upload new photos - the slightest thing can put off a potential buyer

Because the car looks filthy (get a hoover out for God's sake it only take 5 minutes)and people will assume if you can't be bothered to prep the car for sale it is probably not been treated too well. That might be totally wrong but, as I said before, people can afford to be picky in today's market so you really need to make it look its best. A bit of elbow grease, some tyre treatment and a good engine clean/internal valet and you might get some punters round.

I will admit i didn't notice the dirty bits and they were the only photos i had at the time - been abroad for a bit. Back tomorrow, the car has been valeted so new photos to be added.

Great. Its a good colour so if spruced up I am sure you will get lots of interest. The good news is there are not a lot about so the good ones are selling fast. Sorry to be so blunt but it does not look too good in the photos and first impressions count. Cheers!

I would not even phone the advert if the car was that dirty in the photos unfortunately. Others seem to feel the same.

Your car should be the best it has ever been when it comes to selling it, just the same as your house should be etc etc.

I would say take the car out to the countryside or nice location to take photos once the car is cleaned, preferably somewhere with no trees overhanging to result in a better pic. (and sunshine)
try not to use flash as it will higlight dust and imperfections in paint etc...
smile Hope it sells for the price you want

Matt on reflection you are right. I was abroad and asked the father in law to send some photos that he took a while back. Didn't take a close look at them and have since realised that you are 100% spot on. That will be rectified as soon as i return.

Thanks for the advice all, the car doesn't have a mark on it, though you would never guess from those photos.....

i have to agree with most posts.....the G def needs a clean, lol. and for sure people are more price sensitive, along with some over priced cars all makes the market look slow - which is anyway

but the good news is, that if you have a nice car, and ask a realistic sum it will sell.....esp if its a manual 430 spider in corsa (plz pm me if u have one ...lol)

if a car is over priced though i think people do find it tough

What doesn't help the market is people trying to sell 04 G's for £75k:

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2574923.htm

and £80k:

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2497527.htm

These ridiculous prices distort a very insular market and actually hinder sales as other alter their prices accordingly which ultimately leads to no cars being shifted.......
