I spent a day last week on location with AutoCar. They are doing a spread about the fact that the new Nissan GTR (Gen2) is now out but costs a hefty £70k, so they wanted to compare a brand new GTR with a "loved" Gallardo (mine).

I drove the GTR. My god it's mental, proper biblically fast but where you sit so high it feels as though you're strapped to a chair with rockets attached. Very exciting but equally unnerving, as I kept thinking how can I be going this fast while sitting so high ?

Swapped cars back again and in mine all was back right with the world, ie huge amounts of power, but power that you feel in control of. And my exhaust note is a cacophony of V10 anger, love it!

Stopped for more static shots and we worked out that despite a Lambo's higher servicing costs it was still way less than the GTR would depreciate in a year. With the 2 lined up side by side the Lambo looked almost delicate, which is down to the ultra-aggressive muscle car styling of the GTR.

Although the 2 cars cost the same, they're completely different in so many ways that actually they're incomparable.

The full article is in this weeks AutoCar (out Wednesday).

Out of interest which journalists and photographers were present? I have been on a few shoots with Autocar and just wondered if it was with any of the same chaps I was with.

Steve Sutcliffe was the journalist, top guy. We had a real good chat about the new MP4-12C.

Very nice looking Gallardo. The SE was the best looking mk1 Gallardo IMO
Cheers. It sounds and drives even better than it looks, thanks to the SE improvements.

I sold my Gallardo spyder for a GT-R back in 2009 when they first came out. I loved the GT-R and kept it longer that any other car I have ever owned. I have no regrets about my decision as it was a great 18 months but I am now driving my third gallardo and won't be changing again.

Sounds like great fun...and I concur with your thoughts on the GT-R driving position. I tried one a few months ago and it's almost laughably high for such a focussed car!

However, it wasn't the driving position that was the problem...no, for me it was the ride which was unbearable for daily use (significantly, monumentally worse than the 997 turbo I bought instead...and am now selling!). Ok, it was a first-gen GT-R but I can't see the new one being that different.

Look forward to reading the article later in the week!

Good spotting, and congrats on seeing the Film (not enough people went to see it)

The road is quite fabulous and a favourite for bikers, however from May-Sep it's too full of tourists in caravans. We stopped at the Café at the bottom and within 30 seconds we were swamped by 2 coach loads of German school kids, busy with their Nokias.

Early morning in Oct-Apr on a cold dry day it's great (in a Lambo smile )

Really looking forward to reading this article, as this is a question that has played on my mind for months. A new GTR Vs Used F430 or Gallardo :S

One thing I do love about the GTR, with a few tweaks (Decat, good remap) and you can easily hit 600 bhp, and with a bit more trick 650 bhp can be achieved on stock turbos & the torque is not too far behind!! 600 + bhp that's up there with 458, SLS & MP4 12c!! For only £70k!!

Question ? There's no doubting the Gallardo is a better looking car, but is it a better engineered car? The 1st Gallardo will not go down as one of the true great Lamborghini cars ever produced!! Just read the write ups it got from various car magazines!! How ever the LP560/4 is a different animal!!

Aston Martins are good looking & sadly that's it!! I've driven a DBS & felt it was agricultural compared to LP560/4 & F430, GT Speed, 997 Turbo & R8.

Agree with original poster - they are so different driving experiences as to not really warrant a comparison.

I am lucky enough to own both (thanks to UH-Matt for selling me his g spyder) and they are both remarkable cars in their own right. The GTR is insane performance wise and an absolute bargain IMO. It's my daily drive and the cross country commute feels more like a rally stage and the car has serious talent and personality. It never ceases to put a smile on my face. It is early days with the lambo but it's looks and sense of occasion when driving give i t huge appeal. I could look at it all day.....

Fact is both are iconic cars and will have a different audience.

My two penneth!

Not quite the same, however I'm lucky enough to own an older (R33) GTR and a 355.

They're both amazing cars in their own way. In a straight line, the poor 355 wouldn't see which way the flame-spitting GTR went. Admittedly the GTR is far from standard, but you can't argue with 500+ BHP and christ knows how much torque. The GTR also benefits from one of the greatest 4wd systems ever designed IMHO and can really take a lot of abuse before it gets out of shape. You really can drive like a tit and still be OK.

That said, the 355 is just SUCH a fun piece of kit to drive and experience, amazing noise, sense of occasion and incredibly forgiving chassis.

Something of a pointless comparison, however I feel very privileged to have both parked in the garage.

I love my GTR to bits - they are absolutely epic. Will have to pick up a copy of Autocar and have a read!

No doubt someone who has never driven one will be along in a sec and tell us how digital they are and for the playstation generation though...
