Yawn. Yet another future value thread

Can't the mods just make one big sticky thread for values etc like they did for the Porsche section and leave the rest of the forum for actually posting about the enjoyment of the cars

Hardly any threads are of actual driving experiences or tales. It's more and more "what's this going to be worth in X years?" or "what's this worth?"

I can't imagine the supercar owning pioneers like 275, Miura or Aston DB4 owners would fanny around so much and just bought and enjoyed the damn things

In todays economic times, the costings of a car can be a deal breaker for lots of people. Whether it's working out when a certain car will depreciate enough to be within their affordability or if it's trying to estimate how much they can expect to lose once bought, depreciation is a major factor for people.

There are lots of well placed people and even a few dealers on here with vast experience of this end of the market, so why shouldn't people tap into this resource? Where else are they likely to advice from actual owners?

They are not four seater Ferrari's..And the 612 is not a supercar.

The thread title is fairly clear?

I blasted well know they are not four seater Ferrari's. They were just used as examples of older super/sports cars from an age where the passion of
ownership took precedent over the worry of losing money

Now is that clear enough for you?

Hum, SO many holes in the argument I'm actually going to comment as you are pushing the issue.

1. Pistonheads is for car enthusiasts to ask what they want when about cars, ignore threads you are not interested in.

2. Supercar owning pioneers... so 1960's was the start was it, what about Bentley blowers, Bugatti's and Alfas from prewar times, surely they qualify as supercars of their time?

3. The world of money and who has it has changed so much since the 60's how can you compare? In the 60's there were less than 3m cars on the road and 'supercars' came in 10's and 100's from manufacturers bought by a tiny percentage of the population, a very different situation to today. I think a lot of original supercars maybe a higher percentage were bought by the 'upper class' who maybe had less interest in the real car than now.

4. In the 60's there was still a strict financial monitory policy in place limiting how much could be loaned to anyone (Thatcher or more exactly Lawson abolished it and could be blamed for the banking melt down in the UK, however without the change our lives would be so different who's to say which is best now) so the option of financing was out of the question.

5. A lot of true enthusiasts struggle now with finance or hard earned money to buy the car of their dreams, value is a huge issue where people are buying cars that are valued at annual take home salary for instance. Yes they can afford it but going in without taking advise from a friendly forum where dealers and car owners can offer assistance is plain good sense.

There rant over getmecoat

Sorry, OP, end of the year I'd see auction prices for good cars being around there with bulk of the early cars staying around the £55 - 60k for next 24 months. 612 is a much better drive than a 456 and a supercar and a 4 seater so I personally believe it will fair a bit better over time than traditional 4 seat Ferrari's.

Having played with one around the Alps and having owned several 550's and 575's I'd put them at a similar level of fun (ready to be flamed but they are that good on the right roads).

You posted the below on the 4th March on another forum? is that clear enough for you..People with cash sometimes like to make intelligent choices, it's why we have the cash in the first place mostly

"Drclarke]Surely they will do the same as the Countach and drop to £35,000 and they perhaps start climbing again? But any value increase is years away.

Going by auction and ebay prices I wouldn't pay any more than £50,000 at the moment for a saleable colour car

For goodness sake, it's like arguing with a Kevin and Perry type teenager.

I didn't start that thread, nor was I asking for valuation advice. Now stop trawling through my old posts as it's quite frankly weird and unnerving

There was one for sale before x-mas for 55k which had about 40 or 50k miles. I don't think the 2005s will get to 50 for a while though. For what its worth, the 612 is as practical as a Granturismo/3200GT/4200GT. I swapped my QP for one an haven't regretted it one moment.

Also there is something very special about a front engined V12 Ferrari, something that the V8s will simply never have.

If worried about depreciation, hedge your bets by putting the car on a GFV scheme and pay a little more for it through higher interest. Job done smile

I don't think buying a car equal to your annual salary is ever a wise idea. Plus, it'd be a bit sad owning a £100k Ferrari and having to eat frozen meals.

Traded 456M (auto - poor choice) for 612, simply fantastic car. Have wife and two 10year old kids - big (enough) boot, great stereo, plenty fast enough for me and just ran it to the Ring and back. Didnt miss a beat or use a drop of oil. Only consumable was the eye-wateringly expensive petrol. I always thought European prices were cheaper than UK but Belgian and German motorway prices for 95octane where c.€1.55-1.60? The Ring experience (my first) was simply sensational. Easy to find, hard to drive (fast) and would never, ever happen in the UK - Health and Safety gone mad. I turned up, paid my € for a pass and proceeded to spank the car as god intended. No forms to fill out, no waivers, no indemnities, no nannying rules just pays your money and off you go.....

Pictures please of the 612..... wink

Also more details, spec, colour, mileage, year etc. For someone who is considering the plunge just a bit uncertain about annual costs though.
