U.S Spec Ferrari F40's

Decided not to work through lunch today and found myself looking at pics of Ferrari F40's for no reason at all (I dont own an F40).... I thought i'd research the 'Ten Tenths' rear window conversion that Nick Mason and David Gilmour's F40's had/have fitted to them.
Anyway....
Lots of pics on the interweb of federal spec F40's all having to run those horrid black bumper over-riders, and 'side markers'.
Now i know all that kind of car spoiling stuff is to make the cars complient to the laws in most states in America but what's the deal with the deep aggressive looking, front bumper extension??
I would guess it must add more downforce? I actually think it looks realy good and wondered if there are any European spec F40's with it fitted and perhaps colour coded?

The rubbing strips in the middle of the bumpers are a little too much, but I do know what you mean about the lip on the bottom of the front spoiler . . . . but for the cost of the parts and painting you could pop a repro LM front on (and if your doing that, as it will be away in the paint shop you may as well put the extra wide rear spoiler on)
