430 Manual is it worth considering?.
Discussion
I'm looking at possibly selling my present toy a 997 Gt3 and getting back into a Ferrari (formeley a 360 owner). I've pretty much concentrated on the F1 cars and I'm wondering should I have been looking at manuals as well. I didn't like the F1 gearbox on the 360 so plummed for the manual, however I drove the 430 F1 and found it great. Is the 430 better than the 360 manual, what the general opinion.

i'm an old school technophobe who likes to wear rose tinted specs so for me the open gate and my inate fear of new things meant that the minute i sat in a manual i didn't even want to see the f1!!(and the manual is far kinder to clutches i'm told)
i am one week away from getting my hands on my grigio silverstone manual coupe!!!

The F1 is miles better than the 360 - I'm like the OP, don't like the 360 F1. I wouldn't kick a 430 manual out the door, as all my cars are manual but you're definitely in a minority group if you have one. You'd struggle to sell it on, as well, or at least take a bigger hit.
I think you should buy the car that you enjoy most. If that is the manual, then go for it. It's an epic car either way. But try a manual out - there are several for sale for about GBP60k so just do a test drive and compare. Personally the F1 bores me a bit unless you do lots of gear changes in quick succession on a twisty road or track.

Because my first F430 was also my first Ferrari I HAD to go manual.
I looked at loads of cars both F1 and manual and everytime I looked in an FI it LOOKED wrong - I needed that iconic open gate in my first Fezza. The manual box is great and - some may think this childish! - but it allows you to drop the clutch and blap the throttle at any time, say when you've just had the thumbs up from a group of 'yoofs' you want to keep on side, or when you want to make that pretty girl turn round or just because your coasting along between some high walls. Moved on to F1 with the Scud and it's awesome. Truly awesome. But, if I was going back I prob still go manual. You won't loose £wise either as the price will be lower when you buy and I found the car easy to sell as there are fewer around so guys who want them - and many still do - don't have so much choice.

Can you not pull both '+' and '-' at the same time to select neautral, have your childish moment, then press the '+' to cary on as you were? Pretty sure this has been done so as not to rob F1 drivers of those simple pleasures.I looked at loads of cars both F1 and manual and everytime I looked in an FI it LOOKED wrong - I needed that iconic open gate in my first Fezza. There are ways round it but nothing beats barreling into you fave roundabout and heal&toeing down through the gears while giving the throttle maybe just a few blips more than necessary as opposed to the F1's awesome but clinical approach. both have their virtues but for me manual just more FUN.Gassing Station | Supercar General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
