Car choices? DD vs. Special?
Discussion
Does anyone run a 997 as a daily driver and a Gallardo / F430 / F458 for their "special" car?
If so....how's that working out for you? Does the Lambo always feel special, interesting and fast? Do you still enjoy the 997 even though the Lambo's bound to be more of an "experience"?
I was thinking of swapping to an R8 V10 and have made a couple posts on it already (presently got a 997), but then got thinking that it really wouldn't be much use every day (tiny boot, 15mpg). So...a third option would be, save up till September, and get something *really* special to use on weekends and use the 997 as my daily driver (I still love it, awesome car and very fun and practical).
That'd seem to make the most sense - is this what anyone else does? Figured the Ferrari / Lambo forum would be the best place to ask!

Why did the 997 become a chore? I've had mine a year and still love it....mind you...I'm single, no kids etc etc...so don't have to trek many people about or use much boot space. The 997 is the perfect size for me, the R8 / something more "supercar" would be a bit of a ballache as DD as it couldn't fit a proper gym bag, shopping, laptop etc. without leaving them on show.355 has always felt special, 997 just became a chore changed it to 730d sport

I was doing loads of miles circa 30k a year, it was my 9th 911 in a row and it just didn't feel special. Had a few issues with the last one as well.
But maybe just getting old as well (37) !!
It wasn't special enough to be fun the 355 and cat were and it wasn't comfy enough for every day, with roads getting worse and more traffic .
In terms of the performance the 355 felt faster ( but thts probably the noise, smell and general occasion of a Ferrari) than the 911.
In reality our dog car at the time ( the ex md of prodrive car) was much faster than both by far.

I was running a 997TT as the 'supposedly' daily car and have an LP560 as the special car. The problem was I felt that the 997TT was too expensive as a daily car and not special enough for the weekend. I used it during the winter and had winter tyres for it as well so it was used on ski trips as well but it is not really the best car for this if I am honest. I have never been a huge fan of 911's but I wanted to try one. I found up I ended using the daily hack at 39mpg rather than the 997 at 25 mpg so it rather defeated the object of having the 997TT in the first place. I have just traded the 997TT for a 430 spider so now have 2 impratical weekend toys but far more enjoyable option in my opinion. Cars like this are such a personal choice (and expensive!)it is far better buying what you really want (and have a daily hack as well) than buying something you think might be the more pratical option.
To answer your original question yes the LP560 always felt more special than the 997TT and so does the 430 spider. When I went to trade the 997TT the 100 mile journey there I could have been driving anything the 997 never felt special. The journey coming back in the 430 was special with a permanent smile on my face!

Would they not fit in the bonnet?

See, money no object, I'd do this:
- 997 of some type as a daily driver (probably not the TT, as the standard ones sound better purely imho and I don't think I need that speed)
- Superleggera / LP560 Spyder as a special car for when I feel like the attention / noise / experience
It'd require working hard and saving a bit more whereas now I could do the R8 V10 but the R8....as nice as it is....isn't a Lambourghini and I know I'd enjoy the Lambo more, but I can't imagine using it every day come rain or shine without it getting to be a ballache. I'd still like a bit more than an M3 / RR or something for day to day...hence the 997....as I'll ultimately spend so much time in the daily hack and figure, why should that time be "wasted"?
Based on this, I think my best option is probably:
- get the 997 cab if I can strike a good deal as a convertible would be fun for summer, and the 997 GTS's are an awesome spec
- save up for a Lambo in September as a 3rd car.
...going to think about it a little more but I think that's what I'll end up doing. I've been watching the Gallardo vids on YouTube and you've got a beautiful car!
996 c2 cab, 2007 sl and mini work fine for the two of us
996 for sunny days, big miles, shopping
sl strictly when you're in the mood
mini for work ( "planet destroying" cars frowned upon )
i believe that if i did all the miles in the sl, then i would tire of it ( latest version is a lot quieter )
the sl gets a lot of wholly positive attention but cannot be left anywhere, whereas nobody looks twice at a black 996 ( or mini )
finally, there's a sound economic arguement for putting miles on the 911 rather than the sl where possible ( servicing costs, consumables, fuel, depreciation )

If it's only positive attention, how come you can't park it anywhere?996 for sunny days, big miles, shopping

I've had two porsches and both have been keyed at one point.....I would have thought you'd get the same in a lambo tbh and tend to think that sort of thing should just be budgeted for. This is England lol...
I'm sure somebody will shout me down, but the Gallardo is a bit too R8ish to drive for me, I.e. A bit like you Porsche but in a short dress. You only really feel special getting in it or looking at a reflexion. It could be a TT from the inside.
It didn't excite me like a 430, or a 355. Maybe I'm of an age where I enjoy a real gearbox, and a challenging drive. I know I'm a ferrari group organiser, but that isn't why I'd chose them over a Gallardo. I also use a Countach, which again is an event every trip.

I ran the following daily s
tters for a few years:
997 C2S, then a 997 C4S, then a 997 Turbo, then Maser GranTurismo, then another 997 Turbo
Whilst also running the following weekend specials:
05 Gallardo, Murcielago, SuperLeggera, LP560 Spyder
The best 997 as a daily to compliment the supercar was the 997C2S for sure, the 997 Turbo's were as quick (if not quicker) than the Gallardo/Murci/SuperL - they were to evenly matched as far as driving thrills were concerned (granted, the 997 Turbo is a tad unemotional/stale compared to the Italians)
With all this said, I am currently hankering after another 997 Turbo for those days when I go to work and want something a bit quicker than a Rangey Sport! - so I really havent got a clue what I am talking about in essence.
997 C2S and Gallardo is a good choice/compromise/pasrtnership IMO
