612 Stereo Redeems Itself...

I made the brave decision to use the 612 Stereo as...a stereo...and you know what..it works. Ditch the CF Card with the SatNav (if you can call it that), mount a iPhone holder on top of the commemorative plate (low down so nobody from the outside world can see it), and load 8-9 CDs on a 4GB CF Card. Now you have a SatNav that works (iPhone + TomTom) and a Stereo that works superbly.
By the way even though its low down the iPhone works perfectly even in the City with all its tall buildings. I ended up using double sided foam (same stuff you use on number plates) and a Broadit plastic L-Plate to stick the mount on the flat side of the dash which faces the door. So the unit mounting is totally hidden once you close the door and there is no permanent damage (or holes).
Also it is right next to the fuse box and there is tons of space to wire a cigarette lighter adapter for the iPhone transformer. All nicely hidden, and it took 30min from scratch. If you want it on even without the ignition look for the pink wire (+12v allways on), or the 3mm cross section red which is +12v switched.
