It's a good price for a 2008, what's the opinion on the mileage? Will it hurt me more than I could possibly imagine?

stompboxx, I can see where ianc is coming from, personally would have put it a bit more tactfully though! The "is the 'high' mileage on X Ferrari a reliability/financial problem?" seems to come up about once every couple of days religiously on PH, and the answer is always the same: providing it passes inspection, it's just a matter of buy cheap sell cheap. In fact, if it's in good condition, the cheaper the one you get the less you will lose overall
I think Maria149 has got it spot on.
If you buy any car cheaper, then expect to sell cheaper as well. What your major factor should be is not so much the current price but the amount of depreciation based on when you think you'll pass it on (be harsh on yourself - not in an ideal world). Once your comfortable with "losing" this amount then ownership experience will be much better as your not so worried about the value of your car.
You can buy a brand new Ferrari and lose £50k in 18 months, yet a higher milleage example at a lot lower may only lose £15k - hence in some people's eyes would be a better buy.
Always buy on quality; I'd much rather a better higher milleage car than a pile of poop with low miles. You'll end up hating it as it'll always be in the garage. Yet bear in mind that the higher the milleage the harder it may be to sell on after your use (unless you drop your prices).

A perfectly good question thats what these forums are for surely? Don't think the 550 can be classed as the same question at all totally different cars.
He's perfectly entitled to ask the question of course
but he's not going to get any information he couldn't easily find out with the search function or common sense. In general, I think a lot of people who post questions like this are searching for some validation that it is a good deal when in reality, so long as theyve done even a little research, they know he answer already. Certainly no harm in posting, but it is going to attract a certain amount of "not this again".Anyway, moving on, hope the op has fun intheir search for an Fcar!

Mileage bloody mileage. The bain of my life!
The stigma of anything over 30k miles on a Ferrari means it's high is just ridiculous. My old 360 ran like an absolute dream when I sold it with 32k odd on it. It was used on a regular basis so everything worked fine.
Cars are mechanical and everything mechanical needs to be used or things can seize and break.
I have seen some superb examples with "high" miles so don't know why this issue keeps coming up.
I'm now going to sound a hypocrit as I bought my current car with 3k miles in it
I'm coming up to 8k miles and owned the car for 14 months. I guess my car will be worthless when it hits 10k

IMI A is so right because the value of a Ferrari more than most cars is controlled by the mileage the cars are either garage queens with owners scared of putting on too many miles or they have been clocked! AS we all know clocking a car with a digital odometer is so much easier than an analogue one and it is widespread. The worse case and by far the easiest is the Mondial. I bought from an independent a low mileage several owner 1989 car. I had my local hi class ice installer friend come to fit a stereo in it and the digital odometer is separate from the speedo near the stereo, he said what's the betting the wire to your odometer is suspect and sure enough only 5 minutes later he had it out and the live feed had a join covered with insulation tape! So you keep your speedo and all things live just the odo stops what a cinch. He said mine was the 3rd Mondial he had done and the other 2 had been exactly the same.
I think some cars now can be hooked up to the ECU with factory software to confirm the sort of usage a car has had but not exactly what miles. I can assure you a lot of high class cars Ferraris in particular that are over 3 years old will have had their mileage tampered with as quite a few people on here "could" vouch for! I am not saying all have as obviously that is not so but to those that disagree and have bought older very low mileage cars stop kidding yourselves, nowadays paintwork leather and the like can be made to look like 3,000 miles when the true mileage is 30,000.
Edited to add another quite common practice on older cars is putting in a second hand clock taking it out for a service/MOT and putting in the original, not that hard a job on older cars you will see a few come up on ebay and they are always the first thing to go when a dismantler gets in a new damaged car. Before someone asks how come I know such things believe me it is very common knowledge as I say a lot of people on here will know that also

Halle-mother******-lujah Adz! If it wasn't for the 6k limit imposed by the insurance company I would drive the thing tons more!
