FF 4wd system

Does anyone have any references / links to the operation of the 4wd system on the FF??
I've had a look at some info but nothing thats really answering my questions.

I'm really just looking for how the clutch engagement works and how does it vary wheel speed on the front axle in order to match rear wheel speed when the front "comes in", is it a CVT set up or does it have multiple gears in the front "gearbox"??

Simple questions I think and just something I need to get sorted in my head!!
