I suppose I was asking for it after the thread I started yesterday about Supercar Reliability. Especially the bit with the entry : 458 Italia : What a car - I'll get back to you on this

Didnt bank on coming back so soon thats the problem smile

Cruising South on the M1 just North of Leeds when the 458's exhaust note suddenly changed, backfired and a warning flashes up saying 'Limited engine power, restart engine'. Managed to coax it another 5 miles before a bigger backfire-all power lost and coasts onto the hard shoulder.

Rang JCT600 Ferrari who all credit to them, were superb in getting Ferrari assistance out and kept checking to see how things were progressing. Problem was that in their wisdom Ferrari have equipped the 458 with an electronic parking brake which disengages automatically when a gear is selected. Since the engine wouldnt start the parking brake wouldnt disengage meaning it couldnt be loaded.
On reading the manual me and the breakdown chap find a long tool in the kit with which to do it manually.
However the hole to which the tool fits into is under a plastic box in the engine so its almost impossible to fit in. After an hour he succeeds and we're off to JCT600 who got me a taxi home.

I'll let you know the outcome frown

Oh dear, hope it's nothing serious! First breakdown I've heard of with a 458. You'd have thought they'd at least give you a fiat 500 rather than having to get a taxi!

Sorry to hear that especially as sadly most people would love to gloat at other peoples misfortune.

Do JCT or Ferrari not offer a courtesy car?

Hope it all gets resolved asap

Sorry to hear, must be incredibly frustrating and rather embarassing.

When someone pranged my 355 rear bumper over the summer in france, there were people laughing, pointing and mocking...all the while as my gf was being loaded into an ambulance in a neck brace due to (fortunately v minor in the end) whiplash ready to be carted to hospital rolleyes French copper at the scene told me that if he was allowed to, he would have arrested them all

Im sure Ferrari and the warranty will cover any expense. I guess it's a pain as you have customers expecting to use it?

"458 Italia : What a car - I'll get back to you on this" - that's the line that got my attention!

Sorry to hear about it - time to grab the keys to the Murcie again...? smile

I stopped counting when the number of car horns got to 100. Still, there was a big gantry next to where I was, so I sat behind it out of sight and caught some rays.

Thanks for the comments smile

I hope it is only a minor problem. I think that if my car broke down and a crowd of people started laughing or clapping etc I would make a video clip on my iPhone and post it to You Tube with an explanation. I bet their partners are more high maintenance than a Ferrari smile

Just an update - problem is fuel starvation/mixture problems. And oxygen sensors.
