See Red Victor 3 At Santa Pod With PH

Andy Frost prepares for his first drag run in RV3 and we'll be there to see it

RV3: looks great...
RV3: looks great...
Many of you will have been following the PistonHeads RV3 build thread over the past few months, and we're pleased to announce that the hard work has almost paid off, as Andy and the RV team prepare to make their maiden voyage up the strip.

The 'Main Event' at Santa Pod on 27th-30th May will see Red Victor run the quarter as part of a full line-up of drag racing and, thanks to our involvement with the car (look out for the smileys as Andy blasts past), we have managed to secure a great ticket offer to help PHers cheer RV3 on.

...but this is the important part
...but this is the important part
In addition to seeing Andy race, you'll also be able to watch the rather scary Top Fuel drag cars race at speeds you wouldn't believe. If you haven't seen them before, nothing can prepare you for the sight, sound and feelings you experience as these cars pass by and no fewer than 11 top fuel cars will be running at the event, making it one of the most impressive line-ups ever to appear in Europe.

To put the speed into perspective, racer Tommy Johnson Jr. broke his first four-second run at only 22 years of age and has a career best ET of just 4.672 and countless 330mph-plus tickets to his name. Rather rapid then.

Car classes running over the weekend include:
FIA Top Fuel Dragster - 300mph dragsters, big race entry
FIA Top Methanol Dragsters - five-second dragsters, close racing
FIA Top Methanol Funny Car - 3000bhp and close racing
FIA Pro Stock Car - Real cars, real close racing!
FIA/MSA Pro Modified - 200mph Hot Rods
Competition Eliminator
Super Comp
Super Gas
Super Street
Super Pro ET
Pro ET

Bikes will also be racing:
UEM Supertwin Bike - Thundering 700bhp motorcycles
UEM Top Fuel Bike - 200mph, 1000bhp drag bikes
UEM Pro Stock Bike - Screaming, petrol-burning motorcycles

Of course you can attend any day you choose, but true to PH style we will arrange special PH parking on the Sunday if the demand is there. Andy also suggests Sunday is a great day to come and see RV3 do its thing. PHers can claim a 20 per cent discount when buying tickets by quoting the code PH11ME when booking.

Ticket prices start from just £10 for the Friday, or £32 for the action-packed Saturday or Sunday, with both days available at £57 and the entire four-day event costing just £70 (before claiming the PH 20 per cent discount), with all kids under 16 getting in for free.

To book please visit www.santapod.com or call the team on 01234 782828.

If you book and are interested in PH parking, please let us know on the thread below.

Good luck Andy; we can't wait to see Red Victor in action and are proud that you are carrying the PH smiley!

£70 (£60 if you buy in advance) for four days of the best motorsport action in Europe including camping facilities is daylight robbery?

Do you ever leave the house?

BTCC at Oulton will cost you £42 for two days if you pay on the gate with the camping coming in at a further £25 and to be fair roundy-roundy qualifying sessions are pretty boring from a spectator point of view whereas in drag racing the qualifying is as important and exciting as race day. If you're lucky, at most round-roundy events you'll see about 3 to 4 hours racing over the course of a race day. The track at SPR opens at 9am and the action will then be non-stop (excluding any downtime due to incidents or fluids on the racing surface) until at least 17:00 most days, plus there's the added bonus for day trippers of the extra attractions in the live action arena and around the track. So the costs are more than competitive in the market as is evidenced by the gate figures which are huge when compared to most motorsport events in the UK.

Funny what some people consider value for money isn't it.

Don't forget, the pits are 100% open access, so you'll be able to get up close to all manner of drag racing vehicles.. Watching a Top Fuel warm up is an experience in itself!

We'll be in the Pro Modified pits, please do come and say hello..

without wanting to "over-egg" the pudding, I coughed up for VIP tickets (i.e the raised area right next to the start line/burn-out area) at a heady £200 for me and Mrs Duggan at the thunderball recently.....and I can safely say it's still rates as one of the motoring highlights / scarest moments of my life - close as to "on you death bed" moments as you can get - worth it....woohoo

ps. mrs. duggan lost the use of her screaming valve (all girls have one) after the first run...

As we've been preaching for a while. Drag racing is an awesome motorsport. Unfortunately it doesn't come across on TV. It's one of those "you have to see it" motorsports.
But when you do,you'll be hooked...biggrin Hence the 20% offer to get you folks in the door,so to speak.
And of course you can come and say hello to us too!
Hopefully Mrs Duggan has her valve back..lol

Rather than rant at you, I'll ask what you're comparing it to.

Not my cup of tea, but it doesn't seem bad value for 'top level' motorsport at £32 a day.

How much is the F1 GP? smile

M

PS Although the Le Mans series race at Silverstone is only £23 for a day's racing smile

Not my cup of tea,
I don't want to turn this into a pro/anti drag racing discussion, but I'm interested to know why it isn't your cup of tea?
