Nissan Sunday Service Prize winners.........

There was a few competitions running at the Nissan Sunday Service last weekend. Competitions mean there must be some winners, so allow me to make an announcement.
Firstly, the Nissan competition entered by completing the flyers handed out on the day.
1st Prize of a GT-R experience at Silverstone was won by Donald Barrell
2nd Prize of a 370Z experience at Silverstone was won by Stephen Groombridge
3rd Prize of two tickets to the Silverstone FIA GT was won by Darren Peters
Nissan will contact you directly with more information.
The PistonHeads reader voted car of the show goes to (genuinely) the rather lovely Austin Maxi 1750
If you don't agree with the Maxi, all we can say is it was down to you to decide!

Congrats to the Maxi - I'm pretty sure I took a few photos of it (and got to follow it for a bit afterwards coming home) at the December MBW Sunday Service - I had a feeling at the time it was destined for great things. It took a while for the afterglow from the orange to fade from my retina, mind you.

My Dad had a purple Maxi 1750 - next door had the HL (High Line).
Dad's was CWN 668K - I rather doubt it's still about.
Dad bought WMU189M in 1974. It was a 1750 in Damask Red. He sold it in 1979 when he got a company car and it has not been taxed since 31/12/1989 so I guess it is no longer with us Dad's was CWN 668K - I rather doubt it's still about.
I still remember how hot the vinyl seats could be after it had been parked in the sun for the day - how I wished he had gone for the HL with velour seats!
Well, what can I say? Thank you very much to all who voted for my humble Maxi. It seems these cars give more pleasure now than they ever did when in production!
For info, this one is an auto and has only done 18,000 miles from new. It has never been welded or painted and is completely original.
One of these days I'll write up the story of how I came to own it, but for now, thank you all again for your votes!

My 12-year old son, at his first PH "do", thought the Maxi was lovely. He'd never seen or heard of one before, and came to it without preconceptions. They do look so compact and "tidy" compared to a lot of over-blown modern cars, and that one is clearly in very good condition, not to mention a fabulous colour.
I thought it looked very cool, too, and I remember them from first time round...

The Maxi is indeed a worthy winner for exactly the reasons that people may think it is not.
We are all blasé about everyday daily drivers and rep-mobiles, and that is the reason they are somewhat consumable items and rarely treasured long term like weekend toys such as TVR's Porsches, Scimitars and Jensons for example. And in a certain way I tend to agree with the Marina Owners club over the Top Gear issues.
Many of us grew up travelling in the back of these cars on holidays, and days out etc, and they hold nostalgic memories to us. When I saw the pic of the Maxi in one of the threads it made me smile and brought back one of my earliest memories as a child, but not as a passenger!
When I was around 4 or 5, I was starting to get "into" cars, the early petrolhead developmental years if you like. I remember being sat in the back of my Grandads Volvo 240, and pointing out all of the cars as they went past - "there's a Granada, there's a Maxi, a Mini, an Escort, a Viva, a Maxi, a Princess, another Maxi, a Datsun, oooh a Jaguar, a Rover, another Maxi." And then came my earliest memory of being properly told off.
"Grandad, there's a lot of f
king Maxis on the road isn't there?" - a tale that both my Grandparents still regale to this day!
And for that reason, it's worthy winner.
