Spa Six Hours: 23-25 September 2011

PistonHeads announces special offers for PHers at Spa (not the corner shop)

With Le Mans still keeping us on a high, allow PH to maintain the excitement by adding another European date to your calendar. Between 23rd and 25th September, might we humbly suggest you head to the famous Spa-Francorchamps circuit for a few days of racing you just can't see anywhere else.

More than 650 historic racing cars are top of the bill (they can't alll be top of the bill, can they? Ed.) for this major annual rendezvous of clubs and families alike, as hundreds of historic vehicles will once again take to the circuit.

Cars to drool over include the Ford GT40, Jaguar E-Type, AC Cobra, Chevron B8, Brabham, Lola T70, and Ferrari 250LM, all of which will help to take us back into the heady atmosphere of post-war sports car racing.

Unlike many events, at Spa you can get right in among the cars, the crews and the action, as almost all areas of the circuit are open access (though not, naturally, the track itself); there are no barriers here, just a relaxed attitude and a friendly paddock.

During these three days, some 650 historic racing cars and more than 1000 drivers will be entertaining one and all on the renowned Ardennes circuit, but it's the endurance race held on Saturday 24th, from 16.00 to 22.00 (known as the Spa Six Hours Endurance Race) that is the highlight of the weekend.

To help make this fantastic weekend even better for PHers, the event organisers have agreed that all PH members will receive:

  • A 10-euro discount on the entry fee (15 euros instead of 25 euros per person)
  • A free t-shirt "PistonHeads - Spa Six Hours"
  • A dedicated hospitality area where you can sit and relax for a while when at the circuit

Tickets are only available on the gate, so we will shortly be publishing a PH logo for you to present at the gate to claim your discount, and later on to gain access to the hospitality and to collect your free shirt.

If demand is strong this year, we may look to create a camping package for 2012. To help us get an idea of uptake, please add your name to the calendar here and we'll e-mail you all the PH logo when available, in addition to posting it on the homepage.

Thanks to the organisers at Spa and we hope to see many of you there later this year.

Went to this a couple of years back, excellent event and as the article says, very relaxed. You can go anywhere!

I like the sound of this, spa is a great circuit for spectators, although it is 5 years since I was there.

Will be there only for the friday this year - been there since 2006: best classic gathering and a drivers favourite.

Would be great to see a pack of 'new' PHers coming to Spa6. I meet more than a handfull every year.

Sounds good - waiting for the entry lists to be posted up. If there's a Daytona Cobra I'm in!

What, really? That's brilliant!

Now, all I need to do is convince work I don't need to be there that week...

I won my first ever race at this meeting (one of the support races) so it will forever live in my memory.

The six hours is great - the atmosphere as night falls has to be seen to be described....

Went to this last year for the weekend and camped - cracking atmosphere, so relaxed.

There's nothing quite like seeing and hearing a gt40 at full chat as the sun sets! And being able to roam freely around the circuit was awesome to say the least.

Getting camping organised is a good shout.

to be more specific. what is great about Spa (for those who have never been there) is the setting in the Ardennes, the track (in particular le raidillon)is impressive; one can walk around it. And the atmosphere of these 3 days is very relaxed. (much less people than for the Formula 1 GP/only true petrolheads)
The race of Formula 1 of the 1960-80's is very impressive (last year..it was raining..) - and watching E-Type Jags and GT 40 competing's always great fun; Mini Cooper going flat out after La source is also something worth seeing !

The thing that struck me is one can walk in the pit and talk to mechanics and drivers about the cars and the driving.

I've made a lot of friends and for me it's also a social event.

F1 in the rain was indeed spectacular last year. But I like it even more when the autumn sun is shining: Indian summer!

See you guys there.

Could someone talk to me about camping? Where would be the best place for PH based tomfoolery?

I think it would be a good chance to get a feel for the place before booking for next years GP.

I've only camped at Spa once and it was at the Six Hours last year, on the circuit (on a grassy area underneath the bridge up to the F1 paddock/hospitality). A few people were doing the same in different places around the infield (just rocking up and pitching a tent on any patch of green stuff they could see), as the staff were pretty lenient.

As for the F1, I'm camping at the Eau Rouge site this year - supposed to be pretty good, and only 1.5km from the circuit.
I have no experience of the other sites scattered further afield, but hear they are good fun for bigger groups. I think due to some of their locations, most run a shuttle service from Fri-Sun - walking 10km twice a day for a weekend would be a bit keen...

Sounds good - We'll be there as ever helping the Fiscracer Team (not from the Bar).

The one (of 2) I'll be drooling over,

outside of the bonkers stuff in the Top Garages!!!

Best race meeting there is - REAL CARS smilesmilesmile

This will be a great event. Many E-type types are going as a celebration of the 50 years of the great car, including myself. As it is just down the road I feel obliged (at least that is what I have told the wife).
Being the week after the Goodwood Revival I think I will book the week off and have a classic week :-)

I've stayed at the Eau Rouge campsite before and its pretty good. It is a bit of a hike if you are walking in to the circuit (particularly the far end) but the facilities are good.
I would choose this above the camping at the Racing hotel.
