Chelsea AutoLegends: 04/09/11
PistonHeads creates a supercar run through London to celebrate the opening of CAL 2011
Earlier this month we told you about Chelsea AutoLegends, an event that takes place within the grounds of the Royal Chelsea Hospital in London on 4th September and celebrates cars that are, as the name suggests, legendary.
This year will see Le Mans racing cars mixing with cars from the 60s, alongside the latest supercars and making this one of the newest and most exciting motoring events to be held in Central London (at least until Boris signs off the London Grand Prix).
Static displays are one thing, but seeing cars being used is another (far more PH) way of showing cars doing what they do best, and with that in mind we thrust our hand up in a meeting one day and offered to put our name to a supercar convoy that will run to the event on the day.
Thus, the rather nattily titled 'PistonHeads Supercar Run' will start from the RAC Club in Pall Mall (where none of the PH team will be allowed in as we don't own a tie between us) at 10am before threading through Central London, passing a few landmarks and more than a few tunnels, before ending with a run up the King's Road and arriving at Chelsea AutoLegends for midday.
London seems to be crawling with supercars these days, so with that in mind the collection of cars for this run needs to be truly special. As a result we will showcase cars like the Hennessey Venom and models from Pagani and Koenigsegg as well as having classics like the Jaguar XJ220 and McLaren F1. Seeing these burble up the King's Road will stop even the most committed Chihuahua-carrying shopper, and what better way for PH to arrive at CAL than with a cacophany of V8, V10 and V12 exhausts?
Once at the event the cars will be on static display within the Sunday Times supercar paddock.
Tickets for the event start at £15 in advance and under 12s go free (Riggers, you might just be short enough to get away with it, but you're probably too bald. Wear a hat). To read more about the event see here and to order your tickets see here.
We'll see you there, you'll know when we have arrived!
1.) Web-site only points to the VIP Auction as being a revenue generator for them, despite the event being heavily marketed as "for them"
2.) Prices have rocketed - I displayed my car last year and paid £32 (£20 car & driver, plus a ticket for Mrs.) - now it's £50 (£20 car (no driver..) + two tickets @ £15 advance) - is it really half as good as Goodwood FoS?
Great if all of this goes to the Chelsea Pensioners, but if not, I'm starting to question why I should bother bringing the car to the event (you have to be there by 0830hrs and can't leave until 1630hrs), as I have to pay entry for Car and Driver even if it's part of the attraction (other events of similar nature don't do this)?
I'm co-organising www.concordeclassics.co.uk also on the 4th where all the money goes to a local childrens hospice (£2 adults, 50p kids), so maybe that can be promoted in the same way, it would be appreciated Paul!!!

We are always happy to promote PH-worthy events, but we do need to know about them to do so.
The reason CAL is on our radar is through our involvement with the convoy and the static supercar displays, but we would happily consider your event too (it's just a shame we are now so close to it). Is it an annual event? Drop me a line and tell me more
