Calling All - 996 Turbo VMaxxers
Discussion
I see that the 996 Turbo is a common sight at VMax events.
I am interested in finding out how many of these are in stock/standard trim and how many are modified? and if modified how heavily? :-)
Leading on from this any information on the VMax subsequentially achieved in the standard/modified trim would also be of interest.
All replies appreicate!

We'll be bringing a 996tt Tip remapped but on std turbos with induction and intercooler and exhaust kit (car already ran a 182 at last event without the induction and intercooler kits) plus a stock 996tt manual.
Both with factory Aerokits (prob cost 5mph top end)
Thats if we are able to get places

Stu B, Cheers, what bhp is it pushing out?
I'm told it's around 550bhp, but who knows in reality? It was running Tesco 99 octane pump fuel on that day.Mine's the none aerokit and was on standard turbo wheels on trackday tyres, pumped up above standard road pressures to reduce rolling resistance. Folding the mirrors in made on noticeable difference.

crisisjez, it will be interesting to see how Soph's car goes this time with the extra mods! last time her car was quicker in the lower gears than the stock 997 we took, but the 997 got the better of her when we got into the big digits(we saw 186). I wonder if this was down to aero, or maybe her intake temps rising after prolonged stick? Time will tell I guess, that's if Craig finds us a place of course! Both with factory Aerokits (prob cost 5mph top end)

Mine is a standard X50, had a replacement engine last year, still running factory X50 spec. It's also done every VMAX event except one, so it's a good reference as to how far down the speed trap was, tailwinds on the day etc.
Jez, with a history of running up against a couple of standard X50's with aero kits in the early VMAX days, the aerokit cars lose about 2mph slower through the trap.

Thanx Daz thats good to know, the 5 was just a guess.Jez, with a history of running up against a couple of standard X50's with aero kits in the early VMAX days, the aerokit cars lose about 2mph slower through the trap.
I know the 996GT2's are .33 against .32cd for the std Turbo. No idea what the aerokit cd is though.
Looks like the Tip is worth a few too

Don't know the cd measurement, but my 2mph figure was up against two aero kitted X50s at the earlier VMAXs. A chap called Martin had one and then "bluesatin" bought one.
I think the 996GT2 spoiler is adjustable, which depending on angle can make a notable difference in top speed. I think GuyR did a few top speed runs without the rear spoiler. I imagine you've got to be careful with the braking at ultra high speeds.
For VMAX runs Tips are down on Manuals. I've seen my standard X50 manual against a 420bhp Tip have over 10mph difference through the traps.

Soph was 2mph up on Craig in his X50 so I guess its still making good power.
mind, it was Craig though
Edit....yeah just looked at the results for Vmax200 where she was stock and she did a 172 so thats about in line with your observations Daz.
She said she would have been much faster but got lost in the fog
(That was in both lanes too
)

In answer to your question, most cars at Vmax are modified. They may do the first one std........I am interested in finding out how many of these are in stock/standard trim and how many are modified? and if modified how heavily? :-)

Thanks for the replies, if I get a place in the next event mine will be in standard trim, although if I get a place it will be difficult to fight the urge to remap prior to the event! :-)
The intention then being, if temptation is avoided, is to modify the map & breathing and try to get a place in the spring to compare the results!

A combination of both I think. Possibly the tip made the difference low down too.
Car dyno'd at 480 but intake temps really ramped up hence the intercoolers. I'll tell her you'll be there, it'll make her day. I can feel her sharpening her claws already
Don't let her get her hopes up to high, there will be a map on the 997 for this outing!!!Car dyno'd at 480 but intake temps really ramped up hence the intercoolers. I'll tell her you'll be there, it'll make her day. I can feel her sharpening her claws already

Is it possible to come back to Vmax without making more mods in between?

Sadly we will no longer be bringing a modded Turbo and a std Turbo to Vmax.
Well done Jez..
How long before it has as many BHP'S as the Monaro.
Mark..[Space filling.]
Cos I sold the std Turbo and replaced it with a GT2 Clubsport

(So the Monaro can have the day off now
