I went with Speed Chills in 2006
at the time the football world cup final was playing, Italy beat France, we were in a French cafe and after the end the Italians drove round making some noise and the French took it all with good humour - so very different from here
anyway we stopped ovenight at a hotel in France on the way to CLM and during at a hotel 20km from the track, all very good (not 2 star then I think or if they were they were very good)

even back then (2nd time?) I got the impression the event was attracting more of the type that go to LM who want a beer tent (not even good beer) with screen to watch the racing, plenty of hi-jinks at tenting areas and on the roads too - if any of this is what you like good luck to you, fill your boots, but I don't think any of it is compulsory and you could probably still avoid all or most of it
a visit to the Zoo south of LM was worthwhile for the bird display alone
