Went to Beaulieu today.

The James Bond display is pretty good. Has most of the Bond cars on show.

Also a Top Gear section where they show some of their experimental cars like the MG limo and the Espace convertible.

Nearly £20 each to get in was a bit steep though.

Also the main display area doesn't seem to have expanded since I was a kid. They have huge grounds there, surely they could expand and get some more cars in there.

I went to Coventry Transport Museum & Beaulieu in the same week.

I've been going to Beaulieu over the years. Grounds are lovely, but I was surprised how (relatively) few exhibits there are. I actually preferred Coventry, not just because it's also free entry!

scratchchin Now I think about it, I think I prefer Gaydon to Beaulieu too!

Yes, Gaydon and Coventry are good. Also Haynes motor museum is another less-well-known museum that's worth a look.

I think Beaulieu inherrited some of the cars from the "Cars of the Stars" museum, although not all of them.

I always expect more from Beaulieu.

Went to Gaydon on Saturday and for an entry price of £7 it was well worth it!

The Landrover experience which they have added is also well worth doing.

Glad to hear they've got a decent Bond display now. The last couple of times I've been there, the Bond stuff has been in a narrow portakabin type building next to the Top Gear display.

Personally I think £19 per adult is good value for what you get (Motor Museum, Top Gear, the Abbey, the gardens etc.) plus you get a free re-entry if you want to come back another day. Plus the adult tickets are 16 quid if you buy them online beforehand, even better value!

It's a good day out, though the gf has had to pull me away from sponsoring an old Mk1 Capri that they need funds for to restore. smile

Which should in no way be confused with the identical Tonic blue of my 2005 Focus

I did Beaulieu, Coventry, Haynes motor museum and Gaydon in a week off work in October last year, I didn't see all the grounds at Beaulieu but I can go back there for free for a max of four times I think, if you donate to chaaaarrritty and keep the receipt that is, same policy with Gaydon.

I like the period garage at Beaulieu but I prefer The Coventry Transport Museum to all.

Whenever we go away, there just "happens" to be some form of motor museum in the area.

Musée Automobile Reims-Champagne is worth a look, if you happen to be in the area, as is the Caister Castle Car Collection. (try saying that quickly)

I am always a bit disappointed by beaulieu, you would think it would change a bit over the years but i went last year and it seemed exactly the same as it was when i went as a kid many years ago. Anyone know any other car inspired days out?

Looks like a trip to the Jaguar Heritage museum has to be done soon then....

What other manufacturers have decent heritage museums in this country?

Beaulieu is a good destination for a day out in summer with one's partner. The car collection is extensive but the grounds are also interesting. There's House with guided tour and the remains of the old monastery. Plus it's in a beautiful part of the country for a drive. I agree I wouldn't want to go frequently but every 3 to 4 years is nice.

Beaulieu also has a little museum in the grounds. It's where the agents who were parachuted into France to assist the Resistance in WW2 were trained. Some fascinating stories in there and worth an hour of your time smile

Yeah, it is probably much better to go when there is an event going on and the weather is warmer.

The Bond one in July sounds good:

My bathosub is in for a service at the moment, but apparently the Focus counts as a "Bond Car"!

Some anorak must have scanned all the street scenes and listed any car in the background as a Bond car.
