Nurburgring 24hr
Discussion
Evening all,
Seeing as I am not able to go to Le Mans this year, I am looking for an alternative and am thinking about the Nurburgring24...
Have had a look through the events forum and couldn't find anything obvious, so was wondering if anyone could provide a few words of wisdom on their experiences from there in the past?
As its all a bit last minute, looking to drive out there on the friday night and then home again in the sunday after the race - if its anything like le mans, then i know that those who have been will probably say that the ONLY way to do it is to stay for many more nights than that to soak up the atmosphere, though unfortunately time (well, work) doesn't permit this year. So therefore looking to do it on the cheap.
Google is so far telling me that the only way to get a camping ticket is through one of the biggish tour operators on an organised tour type thing - is there any way of getting campsite only tickets?
Also, any obvious tips?!
TIA!

I'm going down Friday morning and back Monday. First time down for the 24hr race but have been going down to the Ring for years. I booked up late and my regular hotel was full (booked a year in advance) but they managed to find me a couple of spaces with her next door neighbour!
I have no idea about camping but think a look on the Nurburgring website might be the best bet?

you can just rock up at Mullenbach campsite which is down teh hill away from teh village . you just pay on entry - BUT we arrived on the Thursday lunchtime and it was pretty busy, if its just 1 car and a tent or two should be ok, no plots are marked out - any open space is fair game, one of our lot ended up pitching his tent between two badly parked cars a hundred yards or so away from our 'main area'....
you buy entry tickets at the main reception of teh Track, and everything you buy - booze/food at the track or just outside in the complex is done on a topped up card system.

Thanks for the tips guys.
I guessed that turning up on Friday or Saturday would mean limited availability, though by the sounds of it and from reading a few things elsewhere on tinterweb, it's not impossible to find a space, especially with only one car and a couple of tents.
Eventually found this post on PH from last year actually (PH search is still down so this came up through google):

For the most part, it seems that Mullenbach is the best bet, though I am also guessing from the below pic that other campsites are available elsewhere around the circuit - anybody clued up on general availability of these?

Another question I have is about access - can anyone comment on this from the point of view of getting around once you get there? Again, different things I have read say different things... Many recommend bikes (which would make sense given the distances), though I very much doubt that will be possible for us so we'll be confined to whatever transport is available there or using the car (if it's possible to get it out of and then back in to the campsite?!)
Thanks again!

I started this topic last month-

On the ferry at 10:00 next Thursday and back on the Monday at 18:00, staying in Mullenbach. Three car convoy of German saloons. Excited, hopefully better weather than last year, though I doubt it will be!
