I'm not talking about some shandy drinking 2 hours on a sunday morning local thing but how does this sound and how many people would be interested ?

Say an initial meet up 10 oclock on a saturday morning morning somewhere mid country. The rules would be as scarce as possible and guill and cunning would be positively encouraged, teams can be in any car with as many members as they choose (more than one driver advised) Hand out to every team an identical list of about 50 "tasks" (that would be impossible to complete all of them) a couple of disposable cameras (no photoshop chances being taken) and a copy of that days "The Sun". The tasks would have varing points allocated to them dependant of difficulty, and there would be a pot of "style points" for teams that achieve tasks in the most stylish manner. Then its bang..... see you all at another location in exactly 24 hours time with points being deducted for anyone late.

The "tasks" would be humourous and imaginative but would most certainly include getting to both the famous signposts at Lands End and John O'Groats, along with things like, the cockpit of an aircraft, swimming with dolphins, The London Eye, absailing down a building etc etc. Some would be easy to do but involve lots of travel others, would require a degree of fox like skill to achieve, others would be just plane stupid. However at each task a photo is required for verification and the team member doing it most be holding the copy of that days paper. The teams could sign off there own tasks and a "provisional" winner might well be clear on the day (prior to style points) these would be awarded by a board of PH memebers. Entry would be a token fee to cover the cameras and papers (plus a bit for charity, I think Cancer Research is the PH fave so say £25 a team or there abouts) and the prize would be a crap plastic trophy worth about 2 quid.

We could tie up the finish with a regular PH meet, say VW or Pie on the beach or one of the Northern Ones, but it would bascially be 24 hours of driving, no rest, driver changes, and mad distractions a bit like Le Mans meets Its a knock out. If nothing else it would generate plenty of "events" to talk about afterwards.

So how many people would be interested and any further suggestions???? If there are 20 teams or so up for it, I'll start a bit of further planning.

It could be quite brilliantly hilarious.

Some example challenges? How many would be best for a team? Four in a saloon?

Wow! That sounds fabulous! Me and J would be up for that!

According to Autoroute, Nottingham to John O'Groats to Lands End to Nottingham again is 1775 miles and you would have to average 74 miles an hour all the way to do it in 24 hours Wild!

My thoughts are that I would put togeather a little "commitee" of the most imaginative PH minds, get togeather in a pub one night and put togeather the list of "tasks" these would then be kept tightly under wraps to prevent any pre planning.

As for the average speed of 74mph the idea is that to complete all the tasks would simply not be possible, after all average speed 74mph plus a "task" every half hour just couldn't be done. That leads to domestics in the cars between the team members about what they should try and do to get the most points etc which all adds to the fun, plus by throwing in the tasks it creates natural breaks and helps driver changes.

I did something similar when I was in my early twenties and it really was a hoot. We ended up blagging a test drive in an MG Montego (it was the early nineties) for the weekend and putting over a thousand miles on it, we got caught in a traffic jam but salvaged some points when the air ambulance came in and we ran down the road to get a photo in the cockpit while the paramedics were treating the injured (the pilot thought it was hilarious), we got chased off by security at Stonehenge at 4 in the morning trying to get to the rocks, and one of the other teams got thrown out of Sea World or whatever its called down Bournemouth way when one of them jumped in to "swin with dolphins"

That time some teams had two, some 3 or 4, personally I'd say a big saloon 3 up makes it the most fun, that way one can stretch out in the back kipping.

Don would you be up for a bit of organising help ?

This sounds like a really fun idea, but the organisation would have to be exceptional. Unless you already have really clear and detailed ideas about how this would work, you need to get lots of other input.

Still, if it happens, I'm enthusiastic..

(And no, I'm not volunteering!)

Could be, indeed. Sounds like a laugh...

Depends on when it is. I'm flat out at the moment with both work and a hectic social calendar but if we were organising it for later on this year or even next spring I'm sure I could find some time to help...

When were you thinking, mel?

Ted

What would be your thoughts about hanging the PH name on this event, running it a couple of weeks before BT&P and then having the winners awarded on the night ???(plus its a bit more dough for charity)

I'm happy for the prize-giving to take place at BTAP but I can't really get involved in the treasure hunt organisation nor brand it as a PH event.

Usual tedious reasons - lack of resources, liability etc.

"Pie Hunt"?

Pie Hunt sounds great
It sounds like a fantastic idea if organised well and not rushed
How about next year Mayish when we could announce winners at PF05?
By that time publicity and organisation would be sorted

Definitely up for it, it is a fantastic idea.

Not sure I'd like it to end at BT&P though, think we'd all be a little too to make the most of the evening.
