Hi there,

Ive been lurking for some time, but your post has inspired me to write my first post on Pistonheads :-)

Reason being, my friends and I are planning a road trip from London to Venice in 2014, which sounds similar to what you want to do with your friends.

As for destination ideas, we have a list which includes the following so far:

Route Napoleon (this would be on the way to Monaco for your trip)
Nurburgring
Old Reims Race circuit
Porsche Museum (Stuttgart)
BMW Musuem (Munich)
Black Forest (Bavaria)
Tuscany
Switzerland (various roads)

Of those, the Route Napoleon and Old Reims circuit might fit your trip best, depending on the route you choose to take.

From what I have read on this site, European Road trips are very popular amongst Pistonheads members so you should get some good responses on here from those who have actually done it.

Hope that helps

There's several old Grand Prix tracks that you could take in on the way down Monaco; Rouen, Tours, Dijon, Clermont Ferrand, Magny Cours, Albi, Le Mans, Monthlery (sp?), etc.

Instead of driving south to Monaco and then north to get home, why not get the ferry to Northern Spain, go through Pyrenees, east to Monaco then head home through the Alps & Black Forest?

One thing I've come to realise is that to try and do everything in one go is impossible, unless you have limitless time and money! I'd suggest concentrating on getting the best from a particular area. Then, when you want to do another trip (which you will after having done one!) you will not have to go over the same bits again to get to areas you missed the first time. For example the hills behind Monaco are great and you can easily spend a lot of time there without going anywhere else wink

Did this for Classic Monaco this year - included the route Napoleon and then back over the Milau Bridge. Found some nice Chateaux to stay in too

Hi, did a european road trip this year with some other PH's down to Monaco for the GP and it was awesome - would definitely recommend, can't wait to do another one! This is the abridged version of the trip...

Rotterdam to Stuttgart (via the Ring & Porsche museum/factory tour).
Stuttgart to Innsbruck.
Innsbruck to Turin (inc Fluela Pass and San Bernardino Pass).
Turin to Nice (inc Col De Tende and Col De Turini).
Monaco for the GP.
Monaco to Portafino.
Portofino to Maranello (Ferrari, Pagani & Lamborghini museums/tours)
Maranello to Interlaken (inc St Gotthard Pass)
Interlaken to Luxembourgh then home.

There is a fantastic choice of routes/scenery/petrol head related stuff to do. The alpine passes were one of my highlights of the trip but bear in mind that depending on the time of year some might be closed. The Furka, Grimsel & Susten passes near Interlaken were all closed in early June.

If I was to do it again (and unless going for a specific event like a GP) I'd go a bit later in the year and spend more time driving the alpine passes.

Enjoy!

Depending on exactly what you want to do and cash etc. This might be an option to consider: http://www.circuit-days.co.uk/riviera_adventure.as...
