Nurburgring 24 Hour Race - 17th - 20th May 2013
Discussion
Hi everyone,
Who's a definate for the 2013 N24 then?
I have only been to the N24 once but cannot do Le Mans in 2013 due to a European road trip to Rome and back so I would really like to go back to the Ring for my endurance racing fix in 2013.
Obviously all the hotels local to the track are already full so I was wondering where other people intend to camp/stay. When I went last time there was a very small British contingent on the small patch of grass inside the Karrussell which was nice to see. Has that grown?
Has anyone ever taken a motorhome over there with a generator and just parked up trackside? I am considering this as an option shared with 2 friends.
Any organised tours going to take the pain out of the planning? PM me for details if you know of one.
Mike

The hotels are not all full.
The small British contingent at the Karrssell are mostly Marshalls from the UK that man that corner. Well done lads/ladies.
A motorhome would be a good idea but not at the Karrussell as its very uneven there and on the way in. And there are some very lively ( rowdy in a nice way ) Germans nearby.
No danger of sleeping tru a drunken sleep at the 24hr, it s ALL action for the entire 24 hrs.

Does anyone know the camping provision at N24 is like?
Are there official sites with 'facilities'? What's the vibe at these places if there is? How far are they from the action?
I've heard that many of the German and Dutch fans just hide out in the woods around the circuit for the duration. I guess you need to pretty well prepared given there aren't random tap in German woods?
Any intel would be great

They set up large campsites outside the track, perhaps half a mile walk in from the back of the campsite, there are several with good capacity. Facilities are present but limited: Portaloos and showers for a euro or so.
Do not expect to camp trackside unless you get there a week early - but that's no problem. Set up your tent and then throw yourself into the melee that is the N24 party.
There are bars, clubs, pubs, stalls, all set up for the race. You will not go thirsty or hungry if you have a few euro on you. Literally, bars built out of 2x4 and plywood pile driven into the ground for the weekend. With big screens and sound systems and drunken germans.
The entire place is like a music festival but for car lovers. Fires, pumping music, drinks, glowing brake disks burning through the forest, huge neon arrows pointing left when the track goes right... it's epic.

I really want to go, but on a budget, do any PH groups get organised to share fuel costs?
A few of us are starting to 'get organised': see my post here last Thursday (10th Jan) for details. Can't guarantee you'll get a ride, but it might be worth watching the plans develop?
Great work, I have added my name to the other thread!
I have a few people that might be interested in coming with me. I will speak with them and confirm. £240 sounds reasonable and I will pay that to avoid having to mess about and go on a semi organised trip. We can do the rest as a group but I will probably ditch the idea of a motorhome and go with tent, two pairs of jeans and wellys.
Getting a new M3 in March so it might be just about run in for some Bahnstorming.

Hi, Just started talking about going to this with my friend yesterday. I was looking through Autosports must see events list and thought it was time to try something else.
Ive now done, F1 at Silverstone and Spa, Le Mans, Le Mans Classic, oh and Champcar at Cleveland.
Spa f1 campsites are pretty scary places and i've heard Ring24 is worse, so the travel destinations idea looks good as im guessing it will be Brits mainly?
Only issue i have it that they camp in the new GP circuit and to honest I would want to see a lot more in the old circuit, is there a shuttle bus service to get you to other parts as Im sure I would have had the odd beer, so dont want to get involved in driving.
Thanks for any help

I wouldn't say the campsites were particularly scary, just full of alcohol fuelled partying so give that sort of feeling if you are not involved. It is possible to walk round most parts of the circuit with the karrousel taking around 2-2:1/2 hrs to walk from main circuit.
We tend to stay in a hotel in Bonn, and commute to the circuit on fri and sat morning, then get any kip needed in the car during the race.

I've been the last 2 years and will be there again this year.
Camping at mullenbach is pretty good even though it is on the GP track - there is a big party there every night just outside the campsite with live music.
It's also where Traveldestinations camp I think - Which is fine if you dont want to organise anything but I found was a very expensive way of doing the trip!

I've been going every year since 2006, and wouldn't miss it these days.
I used to go into one of the temporary camps around the track. These are basically fields that are used specifically for this event. They ship in a load of thunderboxes and some water tanks etc, which are usually kept pretty clean, but other than that facilities are pretty scant! They have them at Hatzenbach, Metzgesfeld, Breidscheid, Karussell, Brunnchen etc.
Last year I went to the Official site with Travel Destinations, which was obviously a bit better in terms of facilities (electric, showers etc) and is just behind the GP track between the Ford and Dunlop curves.
Having done both, I think I'll go going back to the Official site this year as it's a bit more civilised. However, if you want the 'full' experience I would recommend the temporary sites around the track. As others have said, it's a week long party that looks like something from the apocalypse! Don't expect much sleep though, the generators and german techno music only go off for a couple of hours between 4 and 6am I reckon! If you want it really extreme go to Brunnchen, it's like something out of Escape from New York!

Thanks for the advise, i think Travel Destinations is the way to go and I think their price is really good, much better than the rip off prices for Le Mans packages (never done one for that reason).
With Travel destinations, can you turn up a bit later and still get space? Am I right in thinking the camping is per person, so if 4 of you in one car then 2 tents is ok?
Thanks

Last year (and I am only assuming that this year is the same), Travel Destinations had an area of the site reserved almost right by the exit to the track. The guy organising said he would only come back this year if he was guaranteed the same spot.
We arrived there just in time for Thursday's practice (on Friday this year) and were the first ones there. If you got to the temporary sites you need to be there a couple of days earlier to get some space.
I think they are pretty flexible on how many tents etc you have, as long as you're sensible.
