Thats a somewhat relative statement Guy.

I dont think anyone could call a 500bhp Elise for want of a better description 'slow'

Looks like we have a bit of competition for top spot.

What odds do you give me for a DMS automotive derestricted SL65....

....It is only a Mercedes after all.

Derestricted eh.

How fast does one of these go top whack ? Does anyone know ?

I wouldn't have though they could get to that speed quick enough though (hopefully you'll prove me wrong).

I think you'll get the prize for the fastest with the roof off

I think with that sort of firepower, you've got half a chance Mr Gixer.

What is it 650bhp?

Allegedly... And over 1000n/m of torque

........But, it weighs more than the contents of Peter Mandelson's pink slipper cupboard, so we'll see if it can accelerate fast enough to upset the Rufs...

Make sure, you don't chain it to any houses before you set off. You'll probably pull the house down.

Having looked all over tinternet, to little avail, it does seem that over 200mph is achievable.

However, the main concern would be the tyre (ratings) required for such a heavy car at these speeds.

Look forward to finding out.

SL65 if modded will be very quick, it's how the brakes cope with decelerating 2 tonnes of Merc that I'd be more worried about........

My bet for Top Speed is the Ultima, as I think it will easily do 200mph and has the acceleration to reach it in the distance given.

Will the SL65 be quicker than that Brabus K8 that ran a couple of times ago?

The Ultima should be the daddy for sure. I saw one pounding round MIRA last friday. Anyone here?

It is those pesky uber-tuned beetles that are in the SL's three pointed cross hairs

The SL65 should be quicker than the Brabus as AMG usually are very conservative about their power claims, whilst Brabus (allegedly) are not...

How fast did it manage? ...was it the V12 bi-turbo K8?

Not sure on the actual spec or the vmax but I do know that it wasnt as quick as the R Turbo.

That R Turbo at about 160 just seems to engage hyperdrive, its absolutely phenomenal.

Top speed's a funny old bird.

The other night I was trailing an SL55 AMG in the M5 when something odd happened which if I cast my rather befuddled mind back o'er time, has happened more than once.

Namely, one car with supposedly interstellar oomph superiority not establishing any and/or that much of a gap.

In the above case, Mr Badly Tanned AMG McToupee saw Arrogant Von Truly in his mirror and squatted forth.

In observance of the accordant blatent disregard for the lettuce friendly gibberish that seeks to restrict our movements about Albion's glorious borders, I hoofed in time, not really expecting to keep up.

Whilst Mercy Pants' initial spurtle invoked an initial "hell's teeth" from the munchen bucket, I was pleasantly surprised by the Bavarian's ability to grimly hang on. At a canter best left to the imagination, Captain Hair Shocker finally pulled over leaving a clear lane ahead and a rather amazed Y-Truly.

A similar thing happened a few months ago at some decent rate of knots with a Maranello but conversely, when in the beetle, I've had interesting tustles with various particles of anti-matter, including one fighter punching way above his station but again demonstrating the closeness of thrapacity viz a vis the impact of real-world rolling momentum and seemingly big BHP differentials, when an Alpina B10 V8 (could've been a 4.8) necessitated severe cog-droppage.

And there are numerous other examples where once above what communists might term the custodial zone, acceleration per se might be giving way to aerodynamics, torque and the concentration of alternate dilithium-related factors.

Ultimately, I have often gone fastest with extremely heavy note densities which in the main have been the preserve of our finer metal exponents.
