New cars announced for Wilton House 2013

Because you can never see enough supercars, right?

For those craving another hit of wonderful supercars and beautiful surroundings following the Festival of Speed, there's good news; Wilton House has just announced more cars for this year's Classic and Supercars event.

With a triumvirate of Pagani Zondas, a Ferrari 599 GTO and a Lamborghini Aventador Roadster already confirmed, there was never going to be a shortage of mouth-watering metal.

But now there's more. Four RUFs will be at Wilton, including a Jaguar D-Type will make an appearance and McLaren will again celebrate its 50th anniversary with an exhibition of its classic and contemporary models. There are now over 400 cars registered for next month's event, which will also include an Audi R18 E-Tron Quattro with Allan McNish.

Taking place on Sunday August 4, the 2013 Wilton Classis and Supercar is just over two weeks away. General admission tickets are still available here and cost £15 for adults, £7 for children and under-5s get in for free. See you there!

I take it you missed out totally on English grammar and comprehension at school?

Seriously? A writer forgets to delete one word in an edit and that's "miss[ing] out totally on English grammar and comprehension"? Seriously?

It clearly should read "Four RUFs will be at Wilton, a Jaguar D-Type will make an appearance and McLaren will again celebrate its 50th anniversary with an exhibition of its classic and contemporary models" - hardly an unforgivable sin in an online world without full-time paid editors. But, perhaps you were offering to fund a full-time editor position and carelessly forgot to mention that? If so, thank you. We readers appreciate your generosity.

Moron.......

What's the general opinion of Wilton House as a day out? Am I gonna be disappointed after too much Goodwood?

A couple of questions about the photo accompanying this article.

1) Who decided to actually paint an otherwise pleasant Bugatti Veyron with that mess?
2) Why is a relatively modern German GT car paired with a 56 year old British strategic bomber that was taken out of service before the modern Bugatti company was created?

I really am curious, especially on the pairing. It seems as odd as putting a picture of a Pagani Zonda with a Boeing B-47 Stratojet or a Spyker C8 with a Tupolev Tu-95 "Bear".

Depends what you like, but if low key is what you like, far better than Goodwood IMHO - the cars in the PH carpark are as good a Goodwood, just don't tell too many people or it'll become Goodwood all over again

The "mess" is a wrap from last year to commemorate a charity if my memory serves me right and mayb the Vukcan bomber will be making an appearance in the skies?

Thanks. Glad that's a wrap and not somebody's idea of a nice paint job for their Veyron.

I don't get the apparent fascination for the Vulcan but, everybody has their quirks, I guess.

Still don't know if I can make this. banghead

As for the photo, I guess the owner and co-organiser of Wilton House can do what he wants with his cars and article.

the fascination with Vulcan is when you hear it take off at full chat just a few feet in front of you. You either get it then, or you have no soul wink

1) It's a wrap, a take on a well-known motoring livery. Closer inspection will reveal that on each side of the car it features a piece of Ian "PopBangColour" Cook's artwork, which is made by painting with remote controlled cars, hence the 'messy' look. Promotional purposes.

2) The Veyron was at RNAS Yeovilton's Air Day recently (on promotional duties) and the opportunity to photograph it with the Vulcan was simply too good to resist. A simple case of 'why not?'

Seriously? You got to be joking right? I mean you must be? Are you a man or a woman? You like cars obviously as you wouldn't be on PH, so why no interest in what is one of the coolest machines ever made! Right now I would be seriously questioning one's manliness and maybe a good thrashing in order with some birch leaves, sniff some Castrol R whilst standing next to a Vulcan taking off to reconfirm your manliness in all things frickin awesome!!!

Seriously? A cold-war relic subsonic bomber whose only claim to fame was managing to drop one bomb on a runway on an isolated south Atlantic island after multiple tries the year when it was about to be decommissioned as obsolete?

Now, an SR-71? Sure. A Concorde? Certainly. An XB-70? Extremely. A Boeing B-17? Bombastically. A U-2? U Bet. A Hawker Harrier? Heck yes. A Sikorsky S-42 Flying Boat? Swimmingly.

But an Avro Vulcan? Why on EARTH would you class that as "one of the coolest machines ever made"? Seriously. I can't think of any reason I'd care about it even as much as a Brewster Buffalo.

What they should have done with that Bugatti Veyron was paint it in camouflage paint, & try to make it disappear, or at least become hard to distinguish.

Has there ever been a more ugly motorcar? Yes I know there have been some disasters, but trying to graft a 30s iconic radiator shape onto the front of the dreadfully contrived "super car" shape, what were they thinking? In the 30s the radiator shape was functional, designed to front a minimal engine cover, today it is merely an affectation, just like the use on the name, with no connection to the old company or man.

In the photo the Vulcan looks great as it was designed to do a job as efficiently as possible, the car looks ridiculous as is usual with super cars, as it was designed to impress the impressionable but jaded footballer, or an over rich fool.

Much as I'm obviously not a fan of the Vulcan, I'd agree it at least looks better than a Veyron. The Bugatti EB110 on the other hand was a fairly good example of form following function in a supercar. Shame the new owners lost their way so badly.

Some seriously negative whinging there. We've covered most "Pendant Heads" bases...

Bad English grammar.
Hate for anything popular to gain attention.
Veyrons are vulgar.
Organised car shows are rubbish.

Makes the Daily Mail comments section seem mild, unopinionated and polite.

Now then, Wilton House? Anyone got any constructive opinions?

Farnborough Airshow July 2008. The Vulcan made its comeback, a lot of the crowd were there to see her fly (est 50,000 more people). She was saved till last. Everyone was on their feet. It sat at the end of the runway, you could hear it start to howl, sucking in the air, then the rumble which turned to a roar as it passed, the ground was shaking, people were clapping, I saw a grown man punch the air with delight, more pictures being taken than a squad of Japs sponsored by Nikon, ground still shaking, feel the power on your chest, people still clapping as it climbed high into the sky and that was just the take off!

That is why its a amazing plane - "the Vulcan affect!" If you haven't experienced it I suggest you do before its too late, the nearest thing to Concorde and equally as impressive.

I read this on holiday last month. A great account of British jet aviation, with a lot of Vulcan content:

The Avro Vulcan is just an object of magnificent beauty.

As said before, the Vulcan affect is just addictive.

XM655 is stored / parked / hangered at Wellesbourne Airfield which is about 5 miles from where I live. Everytime I travel in to town I pass it and it just looks amazing.

Sure, it probably isn't the most successful aircraft in the world, but it sure is one of the most impressive to see fly.
