Hi All

I've been to the Saturday of the Silverstone Classic for the last couple of years and although I've had infield parking the queues to get in were ridiculous (organisers of these events should be fined if they cause that sort of chaos on the surrounding roads but that's for another thread). Anyhoo, I'm going again this year because it's a great event despite the queues and the tickets say "gates open 7:30am". Exactly how early do we think it's necessary to arrive to avoid having to queue for hours?

Cheers

it's silverstone : completely random what gates they open and when

when we went last year, the queues for the infield were down to the four lanes filtering through one gate with just one person checking tickets

I have no idea what Silverstone are thinking of at major events !

As said above it all comes down to one lane in from 3 or 4 and traffic queues all

the way back to the A43 and more.

My experiences come from Ford Fair which is usually chaos on arrival.

Having never been to the Classic before, how bad are the queues? The tickets say that you have to be there for 9.30 for the infield. So I'm wondering whether I need to build in an extra 30 minutes standing in traffic time, or whether their 9.30 time is just ignored?
Cheers

I've taken my cars into the display area's in previous years & had no trouble with queues ? I've normally camped at Whittlebury Park & driven straight into the circuit about 8.30am no problems ? Once into the circuit they had special lanes for display cars & as long as you displayed your parking pass in the windscreen the parking attendants just waved you into the correct lane / area for your group. This may have changed though as I have gone in the family car the last two years & walked in from the camp site.

Exactly the same for me.
Leave it later than the above, and you're asking for trouble. It's thick with club cars by 9:00am.

Cheers for the replies, the trouble with being there at 9 would be leaving home at 6. At least the M1 will be quiet at that time though!

Same for me. I camp at Le Mans etc but circumstances always seem to conspire against me for Silverstone and I end up driving there on the Saturday morning and therefore queueing. I'll be there even earlier this year to try to avoid them but it wouldn't be necessary if a bit more thought and resource was directed at getting people into the ciruit.

My advice if you don't want to get up early is to book a camp site at Whittlebury, it's only about £ 40 per pitch & you can leave your car at the site if you're not displaying it & walk in.

Yes we got caught in a long queue last year biggest problem was Mrs was enthusiastcly needing the ladies . Once at the gates we were in and on the club stand in minutes. Relief alround but I guess it doesn't matter how early you're still going to hit a queue?

Friday and Sunday are more relaxed. Saturday I am telling all club members to be at the gates around 8 to avoid the queues. Also check out the back roads as that can make a big difference
