Hi Vmaxxers,

I've had a couple of contacts asking for another vmax early next year, the difference being that it would be slightly smaller, the cars would all be upwards of 400bhp and we would do more rolling start head to heads, 50-150mph sprints, 0-175 timings, etc etc etc. it would also be recorded & put on dvd.

I've never been one for making vmax an "elitist" event, however, I am asking you, the participants what you think.

The event would be called.. "VMAX BRUTALE" and a one off event, thoughts??

As long as Mr Tony isn't doing the DVD, then not a bad idea.

Bit elitist though?

Not really something I'd be interested in driving in. Sounds a bit harder on the clutch/components etc than the current format. Not really sure about driving against other people in a competitive manner either.

Good luck with the event if enough people want to take part though.

what I meant by driving against each other is in same format as we currently do.

the funny thing is, at a mere 370bhp i wouldnt be able to run

Suppose I'd better lose my VMax cherry before voicing opinions on this, but the current informal arrangements seem to have resulted in a happy, enthusiastic VMax following. If it ain't broke don't fix it...

I assume VMAX Brutale would be run in addition to the regular VMAX events.

On this basis the two are different events so I don't see a problem of elitism or anti PH spirit etc. It would be a customised event, which clearly a few people have asked Craig to investigate setting up.

I've always thought the beauty of VMax is the wide selection of cars and friendly non-competitive nature of the event.

If it becomes more of a competitive type event, then it becomes less friendly and people will try harder. An example of this is Ten Of The Best, which 3 years ago featured pretty much genuine road-going cars, but now is dominated by tuning firm professionals who bring along stripped-out drag-racing specials on trailers, run race tires, race fuel (up to 118Octane) and whose 1000bhp engines are lucky to last the day. Fun to watch, but not the same sort of event anymore.

That said, I'll come along to anything that involves speed.

thanks chaps, Daz, will be alongside vmax, won't muck about with the formula, it seems to work.

It does.

If anyone wants to borrow a DL1 to do some performance logging, let me know and I'll bring it along.

Craig,

It's a difficult question.

Part of me says it would be a shame to have a 400 BHP event, but mainly becuse my car only has 252 BHP.

But on the other hand, if I had a 400 BHP-plus car, I would probably like the idea.

If you see what I mean........

Don't see any harm in it myself, and would definatley be up for it if I had a car which qualified.

As I see it, the only way people would be upset, would be if they were all of a sudden 'pushed-out', which as you have said, is not the case.

Hmm....

If you did organise such an event for the 400bhp+ people, would they then attend the standard Vmax ? I only ask this because in my case, the reason for attending Vmax is just as much or possibly even more about seeing these cars, which you do not get the chance to everyday.

But I suspect only these people know the answer to this.

As you say - bit elitist - only 370bhp at the moment.
Perhaps it's time for the chip...

Hmmm, good points. The normal Vmax day might become a bit of a 2nd division day out. The real reason I go to Vmax isn't to go as fast as possible in my Boxster S, it is so I can see and ride in the exotic stuff and talk to their owners. If my Boxster was the fastest car there, I probably wouldn't go. The day would simply lose its magic.

Utter agree with Johnny Senna on this one. A big part of the appeal is to see the exotica on show and to get a sense of just how much faster they are (or are not in some cases? A bit of giant killing? )

I think there's a case for a Vmax BRUTALE, but it might make more sense to allow spectators and turn it into more of an event for all PHers & their ilk, otherwise it's in danger of turning into a toff's day out... Prawn sandwiches sir?

Surely less cars will result in a large rise in cost per person, without any more track time, since everyone has more than enough time anyway........

Mind you I had Brunters totally to myself once for a couple of hours and it was great..........!

I think you're heading in the right directorion thoguh craig - there is a market for doing something for the total mentalists out there who are interested in liberating 600bhp+ from their german estate car / itallian racing exotic.

As mentioned - potentially turning this into something Annual (i.e. a yearly one off), and with some kind of spectator management (e.g. fenced area on the infield at brunters, bunch of us regular vmaxers as mashalls etc).

Also to be brutale(y) honest I don't think the early months of the year is the best time to get the big guns out - a nice day in May would be best - to get the cold air for better induction and the dry weather for the spectators.

It's definately something thats worth doing though - making the event somewhat elitist has benefits - more likely to see a zonda along for the fun if the 'competition' is 'exclusive' too. Just a case of getting it right and not allowing the new event to devalue the VMAX brand - which has become pretty sucessful in it's own right.
