Driving to Rome
Discussion
My wife and I are thinking of going to Rome for our wedding anniversary. Can anyone recommend some good routes, hotels with good parking and stopping places for food on the way. Thinking of driving about halfway and stopping over night before continuing on to Rome. Leaving from Kent so would take the channel tunnel.
All recommendations welcome.
Thanks

at the end of the month the Mrs and I are driving to Rome from Kent funny enough in our Mk1 TT. Stopping in Lake Geneva, Monaco, Pisa then Rome, Venice then up into the mountains. Not sure on where to go after that on the way home. Were going to head up to the ring but not decided exactly on the last part of the trip. May just make it up as we go. It's over 14 days so have 4 days (i think) to make our way back.
I stayed at Hotel le Pre Carre. Got a deal through Booking.com which was pretty competitive. Hotel was lovely and quiet but extremely central and they have underground parking that you can reserve (I just emailed asking for a space and they confirmed allocation). Short walk to the old town (less than 5 minutes).
The access door for the underground parking was a little intimidating. I took my SLK and it was quite tight, but do-able with careful attention to the wing mirrors. Someone down below had got in with a Hummer which, frankly was stunning (getting it in was stunning, the hummer itself was vile
) so maybe it was just me being a bit girly with the driving. getting out seemed a lot easier than getting in.
Here's a link for the hotel.

Originally I booked the hotel just because it was in Rue Sommelier and I imagined it would be a good spot for some hooch. As it happens it turned out to be a good choice.
Hope you like it!
