Eight weeks until the PH party

BTaP is just a couple of months away so here are some additional details

There are only eight weeks left until the PH 15th birthday party, will you be celebrating with us? If you haven't booked your place yet, do so quickly to avoid disappointment.

It promises to be a great evening including a raffle with some fantastic prizes, a bar (of course), some great music and finally being able to put a face to a username.

The menu is, as ever, mouthwatering:

Starters
Pea and Ham Hock soup with baked cheese croutons

Pea and Mint soup with baked cheese croutons (v)

Main Courses
Venison with Butternut Squash pie and Caramelised Onion, served with gravy

Mushroom and Spinach pie with Hazelnuts and White Truffle Oil, with a white wine sauce (v)

Desserts
Apple and Sultana Crumble with ginger ice cream, and a drizzle of créme anglaise

Tea, coffee and mints

Wine
Riva Leona Gavi (Italian White)

Pinot Noir de L'Hospitalet (French Red)

Go to the 'Buy a ticket' page, the name of the venue and a link to its website is given there. FWIW it's Tortworth Court in Gloucestershire, a country house hotel with a Category D (open) men's prison next door...

Maybe it's me but that's quite a strange menu. Starters are a choice of soup. Main is a choice of pie. Pudding is crumble.

It is a choice. But a fairly limited one.

I'm a fussy eater though so ignore me!

The choice of starter is pea soup or pea soup, and there is no choice of pud?

Is someone having a laugh?

It's a bad menu, for sure, but who gives a toss?
You are either not going, thus why get upset by a menu? or you are going and don't really care what the menu is like as it's a social event with beer and muttering nasally into your spoon about how the choice of soup is limited is exactly why you don't go to social events anyway

You mean we have to wear Black Tie as well?

So where did the name BTaP come from? ;-)

Two questions - why April, especially the day after kids term ends?

I've wanted to attend a BTaP for years, but sadly this year life gets in the way and I'm flat out until autumn...

Secondly - why so much cash for 'just' dinner, what else does one get?

Seems cheaper to book 50 guests as a 'wedding' at Totworth Court (£71 per head) for a three course meal with a glass of wine, then fed a second time with an evening buffet, rather than £75 for soup, pie & crumble...

30 secs on Google suggests that any number of 'nice' country house hotels will do a 3 course table d'hôte menu for about £36 - 40 per head, and that's 'proper' food, not a basic banqueting menu...

I'm struggling to see the 'PH value add' to justify a ticket price of £75, though I'm happy to be convinced otherwise...

Also, why no mention of the date or location in the article, titled 'more details'?

Hi Chris,

Thanks for raising those points, with regards to the date/ venue not being in this article, we should have linked the first article which had the date and venue on so I apologise this wasn't done.

April is a new date to see how that works, better weather and worth trying after recent issues with November dates as many say they have fireworks parties etc...I guess we'll never have a date that is perfect for all.

Ticket price has been static at £75 for years now, we refrain from increasing it. BTaP makes no profit, the ticket price and sponsor revenue cover meal, room, entertainment, higher menu costs (pie isn't on the set event menu), pre drinks, wine, post bar and sundries like flowers on the table, venue branding, band or DJ, lighting and breathalyser chap in the morning. 2012 saw us lose £800 on the night, the year before we were on target for break even. The price cannot get lower and in reality the free booze is worth that alone.

Cheers for coming back to me with those..

It must be me, but I can't see mention of any pre dinner drinks, wine on tables included, any inclusive post dinner drinks, band / DJ on the article or the BTaP ticket buying page...

It's almost like you are wanting this event to fail again...

It does seem like that doesn't it?
£75 is actually good value if it includes the room and some wine too.
As it stands it just seems like you pay £75 for some food. You need to market this bad-boy a little better!
