Mega Hoon 2014

Fancy driving through Germany, Italy, France, Switzerland and Monaco? Join us for Mega Hoon 2014

Join us on an incredible tour through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland as we head to Monaco and back with a chance to drive some of the best roads in Europe and a host of mountain passes including the highest in Europe – Bonette. Passing through Germany we make our way to the heart of the car making region, before heading south into Switzerland where, over two days, we get to drive some fabulous passes in the Alps including two of our favourites – Klausen and Susten. We then head into France to drive some of the most spectacular mountain passes in Europe, including the Bonette, before heading to Monaco.

Making our way back to Blighty we head through Provence over the Alpes Maritimes, including Mont Ventoux, before finding some beautiful backroads through the Massif Central, taking us into Burgundy. Our final day sees us pass near Champagne (and a chance to visit the old GP Pits at Reims) before returning to the UK.

6 SEPTEMBER 2014
Arriving by Eurotunnel, we start from Calais early and then head into Belgium and past the legendary road circuit at Spa before heading into the Eifel Mountains, home to the Nurburgring. Our route includes some great back roads which lead to our hotel in Nurburg overlooking the F1 track. Dinner tonight is in the legendary Pistenklause washed down with a few steins of lager to celebrate the start of another excellent trip.

7 SEPTEMBER 2014
Leaving the 'ring we drop onto a superb stretch of derestricted autobahn before heading into the Palatinate Forest. We then head to Zuffenhausen and a chance to visit the new Porsche Museum before heading to our 5* hotel within walking distance of the centre of Baden Baden. There is also a lovely spa at our hotel for you to enjoy.

8 - 9 SEPTEMBER 2014
Starting off with a fabulous section of sinuous road through the Black Forest, we head into Switzerland and a short motorway blat takes us past Zurich to the legendary Klausen Pass, scene of many an epic race and still used today for historic racing. This takes us west over the Susten to our 4* hotel base for the next two nights – resembling a James Bond villain lair (and a firm favourite with our regulars)! The following day is more leisurely and features the following passes – Grimsel, Furka, Oberalp, St Gotthard and Nufenen: if you are adventurous and have time, you can also try Splugen and Maloja!

10 SEPTEMBER 2014
From our base in the Swiss Alps we head over some great passes south of Interlaken before making our way past Gstaad and Verbier and over the Col du Grand St Bernard where the closing sequences of the (original) Italian Job were filmed. Our route then heads into France over the Col du Petit St Bernard before driving in search of Col de L’Iseran. Heading back into Italy over Col du Mont Cenis, our hotel lays just the other side of the border in France not far from Sestriere. Our 4* spa hotel will allow you to relax in time for a gentler day tomorrow.

11 SEPTEMBER 2014
Our next stop is Monaco. Our hotel this evening is the 5* Columbus formerly owned by David Coulthard. We start our day with the Col d’Izoard before traversing the Col de Vars. We then head over Col de la Bonette, Europe’s highest pass at 2,802 metres. Heading south towards Nice a small “diversion” involves the legendary Col du Turini before we head into Monaco to our base for the evening.

12 SEPTEMBER 2014
Today we head north over the Col de Vence and roads where the opening sequences of Goldeneye were filmed before driving part of the magnificent Gorges du Verdon. Our route then criss-crosses the local countryside before arriving at the magnificent Mont Ventoux, our hotel is a short distance away and is a fabulous 4* Relais & Chateaux offering Provencale charm!

13 – 14 SEPTEMBER 2014
Our penultimate day sees us leave Provence and immediately head into the Ardeche to drive the Gorges de l’Ardeche. Some beautiful roads then follow as we head into Cotes du Rhone country. Near Lyon, we head north alongside the River Rhone past Macon before heading into Burgundy. Our 4* hotel is located in the heart of the Burgundy town of Beaune and is a short walk from some great restaurants and bars. The next day, we make our way cross-country to Troyes before hitting the motorway back to Calais for our return Eurotunnel crossing in the afternoon.

Sounds incredible, just wish I had something more interesting to drive it in other than a Golf...

If people did decide to drive the 'ring would they be required to meet up with everyone else at the next night stop or something?

Though I can't do this one alas (my personal circumstances are somewhat different!) - I've done probably 10 trips with Nick and his Dettaglio team and I must say, highly highly recommended. By far the best holidays I've ever had!

Headline figure obviously isn't cheap - but I think you really do get what you pay for, and the support / organisation etc. is great.

Sounds great- the fact that my fuel bill would probably also be over 2 grand rather rules it out though! frown

As a rough guide, I do 2-3000 miles on those big trips (to Maranello was 3k exactly, by far the most), the shorter alps type trips more like 2k.

Babies as well Tony? Our first is due in less than 2 weeks.

Cayman S went a while ago and replaced by a 320d.

I've not done one of these tours with these operators but have done lots of similar euro trips and there is nothing better IMO. My dream holidays.

Oh to be Mr Trotter having just won £108M. I'd book this now which would leave me plenty of time to peruse the classifieds.

I think it would have to be something topless for this trip. Carerra GT or possibly a 599 Aperta?

Hi - and 'YES' you would just meet the others 'back at the ranch' that night. Indeed I doubt whether you would get back that much later because those that choose to 'tour' that day would go on the scenic route whereas those that choose to take on the 'Ring' would head back to the hotel on the fast route. The Sat Nav we provide you with for the length of the trip will be pre-loaded with both routes. Hope this helps.

Hi - we have 25 rooms booked throughout the MEGA HOON tour. Quite often two share a room - so it's more a case of when the rooms get filled rather than the number of cars. We have already had a great response - but of course, having only just announced this new PH trip availability is still good. Hope this helps.

Congratulations! biggrin (and good luck!!)

No babies for me - in fact the opposite, split up with my fiancee, bought and consequently overhauled a house, sold Exige and so in debt for another year before something fun again smile

When I do get something fun again though, I will certainly be on one of these trips again. As you said - it's motoring, and holidaying, heaven.

Is this for the M3 on your profile?

What are you using for the calculation?

I was thinking £100 per tank and 300 miles per tank in something half exciting. Too optimistic for 2nd and third gear mountain passes?

I don't have an M3 confused Have an S4 though - but for the trips I had an Elise or latterly an Exige.

Sorry, when I said 2k or 3k I meant '000 miles rather than cost.

I'm a geek, so know those specific answers anyway. On a 2008 trip my Exige S did the following;

2643.7 miles
443.5 litres
27.06 mpg

Hope that is of use smile

What is the price if there are 2 drivers with a car each, that share a room?

Does that come in cheaper than the single room/single car cost?

Cheers - trip looks fantastic by the way - need to to do some calculations..... smile
