VMAX Spectators - everyone should read
Discussion
Sorry I have to do this guys, but........
I am getting quite a few emails from people asking to come & spectate and more worryingly telling me that they know people who are coming to watch (who I have never heard of or been contacted by)
The reason we cannot have spectators is largely because of a few people on vmaxIII who turned up & caused problems. I have been told in no uncertain terms that if this happens again it will be the last VMAX ever.
I hate turning fellow pistonheads away especially when i know that it's all very well intentioned & because of the popularity & excitement surrounding vmax, however, I need to ensure that we can all continue to enjoy these days into the future.
Can I please reiterate that spectators will not be admitted by the gate staff & I wouldnt want anyone to have a wasted journey.
Thanks for all your support.

Craig, can we get someone to assist the security men at the gate and turn people away. As a driver I don't want to see future VMAXs jeopardised like this.
It's very sad, but if necessary it may be prudent to organise future events strictly off forum. This will be terribly inconvenient to the drivers and I think a loss to the PH community, but if strangers think they can gatecrash the event and effectively ruin it for us, what else can be done? Be even more strict and ban passengers altogether? Make it a drivers only event?

I 100% agree.
Bruntingthorpe are very strict on security, since it is a large car storage facility and they allow very fews 'events' to occur there at all as their main object is to be a testing and storage facility for the motor industry.
I hate to be elitist, but if it is to continue it MUST be cars and approved passangers only ( ie max one per car and of the 'best friend/wife/partner' variety). The date should also be kept a secret only to those who are on the accepted list. In addition entry cards for the day should be issued to drivers and only cars with entry cards should be allowed into the site.
We will need to have someone at the gate on Sunday to assist the guards. If there is too much effort required of the gate staff, they will complain to their mgmt and no more VMax.
We all knew this point was coming, but we (well specifically Craig with all our help) need to get this right or NO MORE VMAXs for anyone.
Guy
There were also a lot of people blagging rides at the last VMax who hadn't entered and probably didn't even own cars at all..........
From speaking to some people, unless this gets tightened up back to it's original aim of 'a few like-minded drivers with their own cars' this could well be the last VMax that a number of the people going this time will go to.
The thought of 30+ high performance exotic cars let loose on a huge wide track with a 2 mile straight and no noise restrictions is a major draw for a lot of people, especially ones who use PH and you have to expect a lot of people will want to come and watch to see these cars being used in anger.
Where else can you see a bright orange Murcielago with a Tubi doing 180 MPH? (and not 190+ as the charlatain owner described in EVO
)
I agree though that in order to allow the event to run smoothly for those who have paid, not to mention the safety aspect it needs to be limited.
All that should need to happen is the security guard is given a list of the cars and reg numbers of those attending (max 2 to a car) and turn away anyone else.

Which is as it is now, is it not ?
Personally, I do not have an issue with people blagging rides, as I am more than happy to take people out & would love to be taken out in cars which I may never be fortunate enough to own.
I know that it become a pain, but if people don't want to take others out then just say no. Everyone I would hope is grown up enough to accept it.

There will be either myself or Craig on the gate checking persons entering site. If you aren't known to either myself or Craig, then you will be turned away.

Additionally Guy, if you're just going to keep your mouth shut and not feed back comments to either myself or Craig, how are we supposed to react to them? I'm a system designer, not a bloody mind reader.
Perhaps you'd like to name those who won't be coming any more. Even if that is the case (and I would be very saddened to find out that it was), the event is over subscribed as you know, ergo.....
We can take this offline, or speak about it over a burger on Sunday. Its in both Craig and to a lesser extent, my interest to make sure these issues are addressed. But we only can if we know about them!
Cheers,
Greg
