Hi guys,

Ive just joined up to piston heads. thanks to 5th gear, i now know u guys exist, and i am soooo pleased ive found you're online as well (thanks to a little searching on google)!!
Im just interested to know more about these events.
Ive seen on 5th gear, and browsing the Vmax website what kind of cars you guys drive: and WOW!
Unfortunatley, at 19 years old, ive only got a 1995 E320 Coupe.
Depending on how much it costs, and if you'll have me, id love to come to one of your events! It would be a fantastic day out. Saying im a "petrol head" of "into cars" would be an understatement! Im sure the atmosphere would make it more than just a day out, but an experience!
Any general info that you guys can give me would nice.
Also im from the Norfolk (Norwich) area, so it'd b gr8 to hear from anyone round here thats been to one of these events.
Im also at Nottingham Uni, so just a short trip down the M1 from here to get there!
Soz about the long msg, but i look forward to reading any replies!!

www.vmax15000bhp.com will give you the basics. Craigw is the organiser so drop him an email and get yourself on the reserve list for the Summer Vmax. They're regular so not long to wait until VMax9.

he is.
but its not really a porsche, its a RUF. which means that it is hand built by a select group of people who love cars, so they are quite different. (just so you know!!)

ah yes i remember it being mentioned it was a RUF, but still based on a 996 right?
So is RUF much like brabus, in that their recognised as seperate car manufacturers, so can badge it as their own?
A 19yr old in a RUF! How sweet is that! I cant even comprehend what it must be like to drive something like that, and also to drive @ 190+ like he did in the other yellow RUF CTR. Both amazing machines!

both his yellow CTR and red R-turbo are completely RUF built cars. i think (i may be wrong) that RUF get a few parts of the body shell and perhaps some of the chassis from porsche and then the rest is manufactured by them.

it is crazy, adam has taken me out many many times in both cars and every time i am astounded by them

i should have added that RUF also modify standard porsches aswell. infact the car that got the highest speed at Vmax7 was the modified GT2.
check out the video of the CTR against the RGT2 to see how amazing they are.

Cheers, the cars are fantastic,

RUF attained Manufacturing status in 1987 with the RUF BTR (Based on the 911 SC and single turbo engine)

All RUF vin cars have a "WO" chassis number, wheras Porsche have a "WP" chassis number,

all the best

Ive just got a couple of q's tho.
For this kind of event, do u need to get track insurance or notify ure insurance company at all?

as far as i know people treat it like going to a track day as far as insurance goes, ie if it goes wrong at the airfield then you get it fixed yourself.

if there was an incident involving more than 1 car the i dont think the insurance companies would be brought into it.

(plus, i dont think you will find any insurance company that is very happy to cover you for this kind of event)

im not sure about the exact numbers every time but normally it is about 30 cars.

if you want more specific details/information then email craig and state that you are interested. unfortunatly i think the list for the Vmax in July is full.

Hi Darren, welcome to Pistonheads.

Seems like you've had a lot of the VMAX info, you wanted already, so I'll just ask you, as it's a little bugbear of mine. Why not spell "your" correctly when it's only 1 extra character. I am having problems reading your posts using this bloody text/txt language. Is it laziness on your part? Or am I just uncool? Please don't take any offence to this.

Cheers

Steve

Insurance is the same as any trackday - you are either covered by a specialist company at your own expense... or you go by trackday rules.

Any damage to your car is *YOUR* problem. No matter who/what caused it. Luckily, Vmax seems to be about as safe as they come in that respect, with only two cars on the same bit of track at any time, its easy to get HUGE space between them.

As for cost - its typically £150

Craig *might* not allow something that wont see huge speeds due to trying to control the popularity of the event. Which means my car is a no-go... luckily I can borrow the Cerb

hello there Steve!!

Thanks for the welcome!

Believe me it takes alot to offend me, so none intended, none taken

its just a random habit i've got into. I spell everything properly when im writing, but as soon as i get typing, i slip into txt msg language as a second nature! (i just hope people understand my posts )
i'll try to bear it in mind 4 future posts!!

I can totally appreciate that, cos after all you dont want every tom dick and harry taking there crappy tuned 1.1 corsas and fiestas there. I know my car's good for around 150mph, so my fingers are crossed i can be accommoadated at some future event. (maybe i'll b able to get some slight engine modifications to see the 155-160 mark )

Thank you very much for the additional information though!!
