Large flag poles for events

Hi All,

I'm going to be heading out to Bathurst 12 hour and want to have a flag pole to wave the Bentley, Nissan and Union Jack flags proudly.
Those that go to events like Le Mans will know the things I'm on about. - 12ft long (ish), fairly lightweight etc.

Obviously I cant fly it out there so I will buy in a hardware / camping store, but I'm curious as to the things people use for the pole? Preferably something telescopic like a thick tent pole so it can fit neatly in the car.

What are the methods for tying flags to the pole? cable tie to the max, or drill through the pole to tie?
