I have always wanted to spectate at the London to Brighton veteran car run in November and by chance I will be be staying on Saturday 31 October near Dorking which is not that far from the following day's route.

Other than travelling up to Hyde Park or down to Brighton, can anyone suggest a place to spectate that has parking and maybe refreshments available?

I've seen on a Youtube film that some of the contestants have a bit of a "pit stop" in Crawley - would that be a good place? Or can you recommend anywhere else?

Many thanks.

I can't comment along the route.

But I've been to Brighton to see them arrive many times, its a brilliant atmosphere.

30 seconds in a well known search engine got me:

Pit stop this year is the Hawth, Crawley.

Thanks, I am aware of the stop in Crawley, it was more of a request as to whether there are any recommended alternatives.

Hassocks isn't a bad spot.

as above, the jack and jill pub in clayton (walking distance south of hassocks) is the bottom of clayton hill, which is the toughest climb on the course. Pub is normally open, lots of cars struggling on the hill, some overtaking action etc.

The hill itself is closed to northbound traffic but I think its still passable to non-competing cars heading south (so you can head over it and just back onto the a23 on the way out)
