I was hoping to enter this year's Gumball 3000 - but now that I've found the entry fee is £40K not so keen! Does anyone have experience of other similar events they could recommend? After a memorable driving and partying experience! Thanks.

Hi, I am the organiser of the CannonballRunEurope & do we have an outstanding run planned for July this year! Our event isn't 40k, it's for motore enthusiasts who like to enjoy their cars, beer & women! If that's not you then please don't pm me. Would love to hear from any of you looking to take part next summer.

A word of caution. Many of these trips are organised by companies/individuals not complying with requirements to be bonded.

One of the alternative *******ball runs (there were two companies using the same name years ago) went bust a few years back, before the trip left. Several PHers lost £1500 upwards with no hope of recovering it.

Make sure the trip is organised by a properly bonded operator or your money is at risk.

The way that it should work is that the money is actually paid into a trust fund and the tour operator doesn't get their hands on it until the tour is complete.

Google for 'Package Travel Regulations 1992'

Good advice Ted... I think we'll put Jon's Ferrari up as the bond when we start taking money for Scumball.

Sound advice as I doubt many people would know to look out for it. The Furball is in full compliance with the Package Travel Regulations.

I work for the gumball and its a properly organised event, all i will say is think about what you want to get out of the event, each event has it's own merits, Gumball is the big one for tv media crowds, but others may be more driving focused. PH euro and mega hoons are a good bet too.

Lordbenny...your run looks like a great event !
I'm the organiser of the Playersrun ( not exactly a cannonball; it's a poker run ). We will come to Europe very soon for a guest apparence ;O) As for 2006, we will stay in the US and take over the West Coast and Rocky Mountain roads !
