At Elvington runway in Yorkshire, at a Bike Top Speed event a turbo-charged Hayabusa won with a one way best of 265.4mph............. just staggering...........

There was also a wheelie competition and the winner was 215mph............

Bloody hell! Frank (Flying Dutchman) Gillebaard must have either have nuts the size of footballs or a distorted view of mortality to do that speed on 2 wheels!

2 wheels @ over 250mph?

Captain, I just canna compute!

Utterly, shatteringly phenomenal.

I can't help thinking these results maybe KMH, not MPH.

IIRC the Guinness World Record for Wheelie speed is around 170mph, so 215kmh here would equate to around 130mph which sounds more realistic.

That said, the vmax was only 265 which if it really is KMH would be only 165 mph, which is very slow for a v-max event (my only slightly tweaked GSXR1000 did 190mph before the brow at Brunters).

I think its right, Jack Frost did 240mph on a Turbo'd Busa quite a while ago when I was looking at that engine as an option for the rear of the Mini. 257mph at Elvington recently. Mindblowing!

700bhp or thereabouts...

IIRC On one of the Ghostrider videos he wheelies an unfaired Turbo Hayabusa at over 200mph. It was showing 330 something kph on the display.

It's all about power to weight. Obviously these guys are a lot faster as they have no brain.

Then again, this is probably offset by the size of their balls!

It's definitely mph. There are a lot of Turbo 'busas running >200mph quite easily and the weight allows them to get there much quicker than the cars.

Trevor from Straightliners runs the events there, I've done a few with him there in the past, he also times the Ten Of The Best Events at Elvington.

Strange, don't bikes take the speed off the front wheel? Every single one of mine has, and I've had a few.

Don't know about 250mph, but do know about 190mph. At speed the gyroscopic effect of the wheels means the bike gets more stable the faster you go. The suspension which seems hard at normal speeds feels too soft. The back of your leather jacket starts to flap uncomfortably, despite the semi rigid back protector inside. Your neck muscles quickly get tired from dampening the bobbing about of your head. When you do lift off the throttle, you lose speed very quickly - Bike's Cd are typically double that of a car. You can still hear the engine despite the wind noise. When you stop, get off and remove your helmet you find yourself grinning like an idiot!

Can you imagine trying to balance a bike on it's back wheel with a 215mph headwind trying to flip you over
