I'm heading down here on Saturday with my old man. Taking the Corvette as pre 1987 cars (D reg) get free parking - probably costs more in petrol but thats beside the point.

Group B rally cars, TT exhibition, test drives, bring it on.

Am I right in hearing it is £18 per person entrance fee?

Yup, unless you managed to bag a free ticket, or pre-booked. We did neither so will be taking the full hit, and another fiver or so in parking.

But I hope it will be worth it with all the displays and cars that will be there.
Does anybody have any idea if Bonhams will have another auction there this year?

I think it's £20 on the day and £18 in advance going by the raceretro.co.uk website.

I saw your vette parked up in the carpark, it was getting lots of attention, i was a bit miffed about which cars were being let in there though, there were some cars clearly not meeting the "classic" theme.

Enjoyed the show but thought it was expensive, and also badly organised. My reluctance to buy a programme meant we got round the show by pure luck, there were only 3 or 4 signs on the whole site. Even luckier we managed to find our ways to the autotest display and the group b warmup in good time and enjoyed good viewing points for both. Was also amazed that i could have avoided the show altogether, saved myself £20 and just watched the group b cars for a not so bad fiver due to the way the place was laid out! (thats a good tip for anyone going tomoro!)

Been here today and i'm mighty ticked off.

cost 5 quid to park in a muddy field about twenty minutes from the closest hall and wait for it cost us 40 pounds admitance for me and the missus.

45 quid, a long walk and there's realy only three halls. one of which is stalls.

very very anoyed. never going back this was grim and mighty expensive.

Pretty par for the course - car park towards rear not so bad! Really a chance to catch up with mates and £20 for a day could of been worse. Quite enjoyed it myself.

I really wanted to go but got a cold on Friday and it peaked today furious Still, mixed opinions about it, at least it was cheaper than Autosport was.
Was it on par to Goodwood like they have said it might be?
I'm deffinatly going to that, will It worth the wait compaired to missing Race Retro?

I can't see it being in the same league, IMHO. And I didn't make it in the end - too much to do this weekend but doesn't sound like I missed much except Group B guys...

me feelin' dat!

i thought that was daft. i don't know about anyone else but we were only asked for our parking ticket not our show tickets on arrival. so you definitely could have got away with it.

____________

i am not wanting to be confrontational - but people knew how much it was going to cost before you turned up. if you didn't - why not? when you get a job done on your house do you just think ofa number and then expect it to cost that? or do you find out how much things cost first..? rolleyes hehe

____________

it wasn't exceptional but i had a decent day out.there was plenty of stuff to see etc.

everything costs c£20 so it didn't bother me.

if you were actually restoring a car / building a race car etc etc there were plenty of firms there to discuss things with if you wanted.

if you wanted models, paintings, nerd clothing hetc there was plenty of stuff there..

THE ONLY THING THAT WAS PANCE WAS THE LACK OUTSIDE CLUB STATIC DISPLAY THINGS. i fully expected to see a few RSs here and some elans there and a the chevette owners club there and some MGs there etc etc.

For a one off experience it was OK, certainly nothing to get excited about enough to make it an annual thing though. The "Ace Cafe" was just a few partitions in a hall so not really a great re-creation, although the sausage sandwiches were superb!

The main reason for going though was the TT display which was pretty cool. We also got to meet Phil Read and have a quick chat which was relaly nice. Had a look out for a few other riders (Mick Grant, Jim Redman) but couldn't see them around.

The Group B rally car display was cut short on Sat when the ambulance had to attend to someone in the grandstand. Think they'd just frozen to their chair though. Saw Stig, Mouton and Russ throw the cars around before that happened though so not too bad.

The "classic" car park was a bit of a joke, it should have been pre 1987 yet some Max Power 05 plate orange abortion was parked up there. We bailed about 1pm and found a nice pub in Kenilworth for a pint before deciding not to head back and go home to watch the cricket in the warm. Missed the indoor trials which had potential to be funny, but neh mind.

the first group b was indeed cut short. the second one was good though and the maxis actually got to run. plus a few renegade rally coat people (and us) went down that side bit by the bushes so you could get close(ish) with no barriers!

didn't see the indoor trials but the indoor autotesting was entertaining.

were you in the hall(/shed!) where the grp bs were parked..? it was great when they were just in there idling and then 'reving' a bit.

didn't see that orange thing.

it was a bitdisappointing that car park but there were 3 5maxis, a bugatti, belgian registered interceptor...

______________

i agree entirely. i won't be going next year but i might go the year after that or in a couple of years say.
