Fiat Coupe - geekey gatherings
Discussion
If you live in the Chelmsford area then be careful, last sunday I was walking the dog down at Hylands House, and there were a load of strange sad people with their Fiat Coupe's parked up in a line with bonnets open.
It's clearly not right, and they are lucky my Dobermann is only a puppy at the moment.
Fiat Coupe's ? Where will it all end ?

[sarcasm]
I was walking my dog down at Virginia Water t'other day and say this real sad lot of geeks lined up with their TVRs, Ultimas, Ferraris, Porsches etc etc
ha ha what a sad lot.
[/sarcasm]
Each to their own.
Actually, I quite like the Fiat Coupe. Goes well, looks good (imo), fairly cheap. What's not to like?
{edited to add:} In the Chelmsford area, I'd have been overjoyed to see it wasn't a rag tag mob of lowered, blacked out XR2s.

hey guys - my Fiat Coupe is only one second slower on a quarter mile than your speed six's
..and the dont need rebuilding aver mins...
Dont want to start another "car war" thread lol
As you may have read I have been looking at a few cerberas rcently - I like them - but just be warned you may be surprised if you come across one in the 50 - 100 range cos the coupe's seem to pull harder...

From the figures I have - 20V Turbo 14.6 @ 100 mph, Tuscan 12.9 @ 118 mph, even if you assume there is no further acceleration past the 1/4 mile point, by the time the Fiat got there the TVR would already be 89 metres ahead.
As for 50-100 acceleration runs - the turbo does pull hard - but you do realise TVR gas pedal's have long actions ? For the period of time when I had both, I was amazed how gutless the Coupe seemed in third gear.
Hope you get a good TVR, you'll love it!
Cheers,
Andy.

lol couldnt have been runnnig properly - in our club we have Tipo's running 14.2 1/4 miles...
...Anyway my point was the car is only 220 bhp with mild fettling can (mine is) easily be made to circa 270 which when driven right can easily embarras cars costing 10 times the amount...
.. and it looks good, and the engines are bullet proof and can do 160 mph - rarley driven by geeks
very tempted by the TVR but being put off by:
1) just how many there seem to be around these days
2) the costs involved in running one
3) everyone I have spoken to that has owned one and sold...have gone to more reliable cars with similar performance and when asked would they do it again the answer has been "no, probably not - but glad I did"
..just finding it hard to split with £20k for a cheap one, and the 2k pa to run one - when I have near as dam it performance for bucgger all!

I've being using a lightly modded Fiat Coupe for a few weeks and while it's a lovely car car to drive and look at,I do find it gutless compared to my Griff 500.
Talk of 1/4 mile and 0-60 times are all well and good but on everyday roads and out on the track the TVR would leave all but the most wildly tuned Coupes for dead.Don't get me wrong I like the Coupe and they represent excellent value for money with early examples in a dodgy colour ( eg dark green) to be had for as little as 2.5K, they are a performence car bargain, but TVR'S are bargain supercars.
Has for "geekey gathererings" I say good luck to them.

My goal in life is to own a ferarri. A well kept testa when I'm 30 would do the trick.
However I own a fiat coupe at the moment and I fancy something to bridge the gap, such as a chimaera or a Grif.
I'll list the pros and cons and perhaps some of you could advise.
The TVR
For:
The tone
Looks amazing
Pretty unique
Great performance
Against:
I have spoken to quite a few owners of TVR's and when I'm excitedly asking them how immense they find them they just have a look on their face as if a close relative has died.
One customer of mine had a metallic red cerb and he couldn't keep it for longer than a month before buying a sensible clk 320 soft top. He showed me bits of paint that had flaked off the door mirror. I looked myself and there was a chunk of paint missing from the mirror, there was nothing under it, just white plastic. I was completely shocked.
His indicator stock fell apart, blowers failed and I'd be lying if I said I remembered the other problems on his list.
I was in a light blue Tuscan recently. It really looked the part. I wasn't impressed with the fact it was an old man that owned it but somehow managed to make the car look 6 years old with the amount of stone chips he picked up in 4 months.
Inside I thought, hmmm this is pretty flash. But then after further inspection it just felt very cheapy. For a start, I don't know what leather is used but the car smelled like a new pair of nike. (this wouldn't bother me)
There was a bit of the windscreen which was completely unreachable with a cloth, terrible design flaw. There was a beautiful colony of spider and fly assortment which resided in this hard to reach crevice.
The carpet inside this car was Royal blue and I'd expect to find it in a disused pensioners closet. It was actual carpet you'd buy from your local carpet wise.
The aluminium seems like a nice touch but I can't help but imagine TREVOR got in touch with a local alu engineering company and asked them to make all interior instruments.
Opening the doors on the tuscan Isn't very clever at all. The window drops so it will get dirty a few inches up the window without fail if there is any dampness or dirt in there. Seems a bit snidey.
The wheels I often see on the chimaeras just make 'borbet' or 'ronal' spring to mind, really nasty wheels.
Anyway lads, not looking to slag them as I still really like them, but I would just like some positive feed back to perhaps get me back on track again.
I know fiat coupes have their flaws but I have had mine for 1 year. I get nothing but compliments. I have spent nothing on it apart from some mild modifications. On a very hot day I had 212 at the wheels. Since then I've adjusted the air/fuel mixture as I was running lean. I've got leather, air con and it makes a good noise.
Cheers guys
