Ladies and gentlemen... a new concept in hoonery!
Right, here's the deal. At some point in 2008, we're going to do the Nordschleife. This idea has been punted around the Bargain Barge Thread and it has attained 'rude not to!' status, so let's get it organised.
Those claiming interest so far:
I throw discussion on rules, timing, etc open to the thread. My initial feeling is that to qualify, all cars must have four proper seats, a minimum of 2 litres and/or 6 cylinders involved, FWD frowned upon but possibly tolerated in certain (Swedish) cases. This is not a speed run, it's a cross-European waft followed by biffing around the track in an old-fashioned bruising style. Ring-novices welcomed (Er - I am one!)

The Barge Bargain thread's limit is £10k, it's a celebration of depreciation rather than bangernomics as these are mostly daily drivers. I'm not averse to a banger sub-section, but I'll be there in my MG

Just wanted to point out that a lot of the German regulars that go to the N'Ring (and many of the marshals) are becoming a bit tired of all the 'crap heaps' that turn up as a gimmik when going round the track.
This year and previous years have seen the 'scumball' and other such like events using the track as a bit of a 'piss take' and they are becomming a bit wary of the dangers, and it also peevs off the local track nuts who go there all the time due to track closures etc.
As a big N'Ring fan I would like to see events such as the one suggested be booked into dedicated track days and not public open days at the Ring. So that the officials do not draft up rules to stop the current free flowing system of anyone turning up and getting on track. If it is seen that people are taking this system for granted then things would change. (And for the worse)
Have you thought of booking dedicated track time at the Ring ? or even a track day at Spa ?

Interesting thought. On a non-public day there might be a few too many locals in rocketships? And it might cost a bit? As for insurance, I looked at my CoI and it specifically says 'not for use on the Nurburgring Nordschleife'

The way I saw it wasn't a Scumball-esque 'find the cheapest biggest piece of crap you can' job, more a sociable jaunt in some rather clement semi-outdated automotive waftery. As remarked, most of us with BBs use them as daily drivers so I'm damned if I'm flogging mine when I get home!

Exactly. I have no intention of ragging mine around the Nordschliefe, but rather to go as quickly as possible without pushing the machinery too hard. After all, it has to take me to work and back and I don't have buckets of cash for 4 new tyres, 4 sets of brakes, a full service and all that sort of thing.And it's as much a social event as a mechanical one, for me. Well, it will be if I can organise the £££ to go...

rather specific clause that, I understand it is officially classed as a Toll road (that goes no-where
) but there must be some form of temporary track type insurance available.I might be up for it using the 'fwd but Swedish & turbo'ed exemption clause'

If you crash you will be apprehended billed £££££ for barriers and loss of revenue for track closure. If you drip fluids and a resultant accident occurs you will be held liable.
None of the above is any reason not to have fun, but if the old banger has so much as an oil drip please bear in mind the potential consequences this could have for an unsuspecting biker.

I'd say most of these cars would be about as likely to drop fluids as a 5 yr old performance car that has been ragged a lot, provided people don't start pushing their performance envelope

Is that likely to happen. Is the whole point of going on a track not to push the performance envelope ? (Its easy to say that when you are sat infront of a PC but on the day, at the track, as you pass through the barrier and you see the first stretch of track.... 99 times out of a 100 its a cse of foot to the floor and try and be Schumacher) I know I'm just generalising but its the way things usually go. 

I'm sure if the organisors were to contact the Nurburgring officals and sort out even just a number of hours of private track time hire ... it would benefit both the event and all others that use the track.
The track is usually closed to the general public on certain hours of the day anyhow... contacting them early enough should see the event getting its own allocated private hours.
