If a red car wins (which is very likely in 2008) then Milan goes bat-shit on Sunday night, so that can be fun. Other than that I'm personally not a fan of Milan, though it's the obvious base.
As for things to do, I'd hire something and go exploring. It's a 2 hour drive to Supercar Central. I'd highly recommend a visit to Lamborghini (their museum is excellent), but the Ferrari Galleria is close too if that's your thing, as is Pagani, Maserati, Ducatti and countless collections which can be visited. Would make a good excursion for Monday: stay in a traditional villa in Modena and then back to the airport on Tuesday.
