Where to stay at the 'Ring?
Discussion
I'm looking for a bit of direction more than anything. I've had a look at the hotels on Ben Lovejoys site, but i don't know what the best option is.
There's a group of 4 of us going for 2 nights at the beginning of May, and i'm trying to find a decent hotel that will have a bit of life in it in the evenings (beer and chat, not dancing girls ). So far http://www.ringhaus.com/hotel_en/public/index.php is looking like a favourite, but are there any other i should consider?

I can highly recommend Hotel Blaue Ecke in Adenau.
Nice place, nice people, nice food, nice village.
Granted, its the only place Ive stayed over there, but for the money I spent and the service I got, Ill happily stick with it.
I would definitely second that..... I love the Blau Ecke and stay there every time I go.... the rooms are names after each of the sections of the Ring and the bar will stay open until the last person leave.... chat is all Ring adventures.... only downside IMO is the parking is a bit tight but 'tis not too bad.Nice place, nice people, nice food, nice village.

Adenau is lovely too.... great place, and go to Pinoccio's, bestest pizza's going.
Just love the place

last June went to RockamRing festival and stayed about 3 kays from the main GP circuit entrance (I think thats what it was - only time I been there) in a typical German gasthof called Gasthof Weber (or maybe Webber?). I'm sure a google search should find it - I would have more details except I didnt book it.. was a package done by the company that took us there. Comfy modern rooms (3 star I guess?) Big bar area, typical Gasthof brekky & dinner and depending on how many others staying there (we had heaps of rock fans) really dictates the vibe at the bar which will stay open til the money stops. Heaps of parking & 2 minute drive to the circuit. Not much else around though except 3 or 4 similar Pensions. Cant be much more than 80euros inc brekky?

I have stayed here in the past and will be staying there during the 24 hour race in May. Very nice place at reasonable cost and Eddie who owns it is very helpful with local knowledge.

The Ringhaus is amazing, properly great for what you want, and far closer to the ring than any other hotel. Stay there, and tell him Matt from Road sent you and you'll get a discount.

Only been to the Altes Forsthaus (the one you've linked to) so can't comment on the others, but I would say it was very good for what it is - basic accomodation (bunk beds in our room!), decent food, great beer and a bar with real atmosphere full of like minded people. Oh, and they had some cute waitresses, but they don't dance as far as I'm aware. Would highly recommend it if you're on a budget, but it's not palacial.
Also visited Haus Marvin as I rented a car from there. Can't comment on the accomodation, but the owners are really nice people.
eta: The Altes Forsthaus is also only a couple of hundred metres from the main entrance.

Hotel Nordshleiffe - (Mad Eddys) not for nightlife, but when chilling and sitting outside, the fact the it looks out onto the down hill into Adenau and the early mornig supercar (or bike) noise that is simply intoxicating, across the road is a popular spectator spot (Breidscheid/Ex-Muhle) at Adenau bridge. Popular with English, very friendly, Eddy has taken us round for sighting laps.
Pisten Claus? is nice food, and a drivers restaurant, not far away, you will find it one place not to miss! (busy and can be a car park like a parc ferme)
