Silverstone Classic 2008, July 25/26/27
Discussion
Well nothing's been posted so far for this event so thought I might aswell start one.
This years Classic is looking bigger and better than last years! The Historic F1 cars are back, as are the Group C/GTP cars and I've just seen that they're setting up a rally special stage for Group B rally cars inside Becketts.
They've also got live music at the Scarf & Goggles, some Beatles tribute band, a soul band and a jazz/swing stuff during the day.
Roll on July!

Is anybody here doing the Retrorun?
Thought about it but with camping at Whittlebury I'm not expecting to be in the best of conditions come Sunday morning. The drive round to the entrance will be bad enough, nevermind avoiding the on track shenanigans I watched last year.Vette_1978 said:

They've also announced that the Mercedes "Silver Arrows" group C car from 1989 will be taking part. This years Classic is looking bigger and better than last years! Ahhh Phils beaten me to it
Aye the plan for Silverstone Classic is to get as many names as possible confirmed for the tickets and the camping at Whittlebury Park and once the tickets become available, we'll bulk order through either the Corvette owners club (via Vette_1978) or the Sporting Bears (also through Vette_1978)
Then we shall take payment from those wanting to camp over at Whittelbury and sending the block payment down to the good people in charge of bookings at the said park and have our own reserved area to set up camp and enjoy the atmopshere and alcohol
For those who arent on Chew-The-Fat, if you're interested (there is a Facebook group available throuhgh my FB profile) please make a list and we shall add you all to it!
Lets have a good bash at Silverstone
(cheers Phil

The update for those looking for one:
The tickets are now available to the masses, but we're going through Vette_1978 who shall be buying the job lot from The Sporting Bears Driving Club which will save everyone a little money aswell as giving them the quota
The 3 day pass price will be £45, but the offer is only open until June 30th!
The best thing to do would be for me to sort out with Phil the best way to get the money to him, then take orders from everyone (including myself) and pay in one big lump then I shall deal with the postage of said tickets via a friend of mine
I tried calling whittlebury Park earlier, but no answer so shall try tomorrow.
If I remember rightly, it was £30 per person/per tent which by rights should include the weekend, but I shall clairfy this as soon as I can
What I would like us all to do is to confirm names then again, organise to the final number of people attending for the camp and send the checks upto me where I will make one full sum check payable to the campsite so we can have our own little area.
Please dont forget that you're welcome to bring friends along as long as they're
A. Nice and friendly
B. Not boring
C. Enjoy a good laugh
D. Paying upfront with everyone else
There was some whacky ideas about people doing a mini Le Mans type thing with this event, so feel free to fire suggestions off and we'll see what people fancy doing...
If there is any questions, please email me...I think Im at work tomorrow and all next week, but will do my best to answer
For those who have it, give me a call or text if you need anything

Hi,
Never camped at Whittlebury before, so have a couple of questions. Is it a case of leave the car with tent and walk in the Silverstone, Is the campsite secure i.e.: no worries about leaving the car there all day. Thinking of driving up sat lunch time leave Sunday afternoon. (work permitting)
Cheers

As far as Im aware, I think its safe to leave the car at Whittlebury and walk through to Silverstone as there is private access to the track as far as Ive been informed although Im sure Vette can confirm this Never camped at Whittlebury before, so have a couple of questions. Scott I'm bang up for this, especially if its going to be a proper little event with camping, banter,
and such like.
I will find out this weekend about time off - Im a little worried though As I'm having the previous weekend off for a 12 hour bike enduro... Might have to come down after work on Friday perhaps.
I'm a pro at the camping lark, would probably be able to help with things such as gas cookers, soundsytem, lights, gazeebo's etc etc.

Worry not about coming down Friday night old pal, once the payment to Whittlebury has been made in full, the site will be reserved

I think there could be a few coming down on the friday evening probably including myself

Oh Wow, just looked at the official web-site. Looks good, definitely up for this
Will keep an eye on this thread for any runs up to Silverstone from the south on the Saturday

After a long ponder about the virtues of watching American V8 after American V8 (much as I love them)blast up the 1/4 mile and the 'joys' of camping at Santa Pod, have decided this does indeed look a better bet.

Will be coming up early Saturday morning, and camp at Whittlebury.
Looking at trying out a non motorway route from Marlow, via Thame, Bicester and Stowe soon.
Myself and RG will be there. Got tickets for the whole weekend…. No camping, as we live just down the road.
I would love media accreditation, but I havent been published enough yet!
I reckon we should mug Autofocus on the Friday, make some fake passes and jackets, then we’re sorted for the rest of the weekend.
