I used to have this problem. Me and a mate would decide we wanted to go and watch some motorsport of a weekend and so we would look at the Brands Hatch site, the Goodwood site and maybe BARC.net or the Lydden Hill site to find out what was on and how much it would cost etc. We might even look at Easytrack for trackdays if we wanted some free entry.

It gave me an idea to create a web based database of all UK motorsport events that would allow the user to search by event type, county or all events at a particular venue.

I have now created the UK Motorsport Calendar website that does just that. I am adding more events all the time. Got all the main events on there now I think. Just need to find some more obscure ones like short oval racing and stuff like that.

Hope you find it useful. I've already used it myself a couple of weekends ago - went to see a Bike Racing series at Brands Hatch that I never knew existed. smile

Nice idea, but one already exists here: http://www.pistonheads.com/calendar/

That is an excellent idea. The PH one is o.k for trackdays and the odd race meeting but you cant filter the type of event and it is not comprehensive enough.

I Would also prefer a regional filter, rather than county. I live in Bucks but am only 20 mins from Silverstone which would not come up because it is in Northants, Would be easier to search South East, rather than having to search several counties.

Yes, you can multi select the counties, class and venue list selection. smile

I also plan to add some more functionality. I have included the postcodes in the data so I will be able to calculate the distance between two postcodes with some handy longitude/latitude data and pythagarus' theorem. Then you will be able to put your postcode in and select the distance (as the crow flies) to the event.

Adding more events all the time whenever I have a chance to hunt out some more obscure ones. smile

Glad you think it will be useful.

hehe - didn't know that was there. Might have to check out what events are listed there too. Might point me in the direction of some more data. smile

Just noticed a little bug in the results. If an event is run over more than one day, once you get past the first day it does not show in the results.

Will fix this on Thursday. smile

The Silverstone events you have listed are only the major internationals. On the Silverstone website there is also a list of club meets - this Sunday for example is the Historics.

It uses Multipmap instead actually. If you click on any item in the list, providing the event has a postcode, which 99% of them do, there is a link to show the location on multimap.

I also plan to add a range search function so you can add your postcode and then specify maximum distance for an event.

Been a bit busy with other stuff the last week so hoping to get to turn my attention back to this over the weekend.

I have lots of idea for other useful info to put on there. TV Coverage listing for example. Got loads of ideas.

Might even allow users to create accounts like with a forum and then post reviews about events. Then when the same event is clicked on next year it will show a link to the event reviews from the previous year.

Ofocurse all this stuff will take some time so for now it is just building up search engine ranking.

Sweet smile

I've fixed the date comparison bug now. So if you were to search this coming Sunday it would still display British GT and F3 Championships even though they started the day before.

Rather than scroll boxes, can you set them to drop down, in opera you can only see 1 line at a time and it's not very user friendly

I went along last year and if you've never seen or heard these things in the flesh I strongly recommend you go along. Take some ear plugs tho smile

Use race dates if you want events, tons including hillclimbs, sprints, ovals etc. Might be useful for you
